fwiw i could see Newell as the surprise from the lowest tier, he was top player for a top team last year, and a Hobey Baker final 10 nominee.
Smaller well-rounded guys, with a bit of O, have been finding their niche in today's NHL.
Of course, no denying, he is already 23 ...

Here's hoping we get the better play, and results, we are expecting down in Hartford.

I think there are clear cut tier breaks

Tier 1 ends after Kravstov
Tier 2 ends after Fox
Tier 3 ends after Robertson
Tier 4 ends after Lindbom
Tier 5 is the remainder

I would include Shesterkin and Miller in tier one. They, along with Kakko and Kravtsov, have legitimate, elite, game-breaking talent.

From there on, it's too hard for me to do tiers, since I generally agree with the placement of guys, but I'd move things around a bit and therefore can't do the tiers without feeling like I'm excluding guys.

FWIW I'm not convinced that Shestyorkin is going to turn out to be a better goalie than Georgiev. I really think Alex doesn't get enough respect. He was without a doubt in my mind a better goalie than Henrik in the second half of last year. He's also been through some real bombings and stolen NHL games for his team.

....and Fox is another wild card. Most of us I would think have not followed him all that closely. He has tremendous skill though.

Of the guys who didn't make the cut both Crawley and Raddysh have two years in the AHL--neither are horrible players and I really don't see where Day has an edge on either. Raddysh seemed to be a pretty good player in Rockford but after being traded to Hartford he had an issue adjusting to his new team. It happens sometimes in the NHL--why not in the AHL? Crawley strikes me as an over enthusiastic player at times--skates well, plays hard, gets under skins. He may be a reach to ever play in the NHL but there's a battler there. The other thing there are always guys like Virta who don't do quite enough to get an ELC. These guys did.

Funny to go back and look at older lists. Tarmo was an afterthought ever since we drafted him, wasn't even ranked 2 polls ago then shoots up to 13.

Definitely happy with the high end talent at the top of the list but what REALLY excites me for the whole list is the depth in this 9-14 spots. Extremely impressive.

I think Crawley has as much chance of becoming an NHL player as Sean Day does. I'd rank them about the same.

To me Day is just a tease--a big body that skates and stickhandles beautifully but is not hockey smart and for all the athleticism and skill there is very little toolbox and he doesn't use his size all that well either.

The guy I think was too low though was Lettieri. Got callups in his first two seasons and was a point a game player in Hartford last year on a very offensively challenged team. I have him at 19. I also don't think Elmer should be a lot higher but that's more of a gut thing and we'll have to see.

Generally the rankings are very good though and we have a deep deep prospect pool better than I can ever remember though trying to go back 20-25 years ago is kind of like venturing into a fog at this point.

There's about 8-9 names on there that could be off the list next time we vote. 7 of them are in top-10.

I am not a Day fan, but I will admit he made significant strides from the first half of last year/his ECHL stint and the rest of the year. I give him credit for that. So I'm hopeful (but not optimistic) he can continue to take steps forward.

McIlrath sitting at #4 just four years ago... pretty insane how far we've come

When was the last time the guy at #15 was even considered a potential NHLer? We used to struggle to tag guys to even play an NHL game beyond the 7th or 8th slot.

Well he started in Maine and moved up to Hartford and over the course of the season seemed to make some progress--though Hartford's D was a shitshow--season ending injuries for Bigras, O'Gara and Hajek certainly put a damper on things. Most of the D were actually hit by injuries at one point or another---Day being an exception.

The 18 month rebuild. Wow

One more year of missing the playoffs and a high pick I think solidifies the future more and could be greatly beneficial as we approach an anticipated streak of not picking high.
