If the Rags are looking to move on from Nash this off-season they would likely have to take a loss value wise. He had a down year but could likely turn it around if they held on. You are also underestimating the prospects coming back. Barbashev would look great on a line with Buchnevich and Sergeev would slot high in Hartford.

When was the last time you watched either of those guys play? Barbashev is looking like he projects as a low end 2nd line / high end 3rd liner center. He may be a useful player, but he's not in Buchnevich's league. As for Sergeev, you're right, he's an AHL defenseman.

As I mentioned in another Nash thread here, the best baseline for what the Rangers will get is the Gaborik trade that resulted in a 25-year-old second liner (Brassard), a 25-year-old 4th liner (Dorsett) and a 21-year-old third pair defenseman (John Moore) coming back.

Considering that Gaborik:

1. Earned a greater percentage of the cap than Nash;
2. Had a worse year and a similar offensive career;
3. Was much worse defensively;
4. Not as physical;
5. MUCH more injured;

Nash should bring in more than what Gaborik brought back.

Some other players that bought back more than a first rounder:

• Eric Staal got two seconds and a good prospect.
• Sekera got a first and a prospect.
• Coburn got a first, a third and a young defenseman.
• Frederik Anderson got a first rounder and a second.
• Reinhart got a mid-first and a very early second. He then spent half the year in the minors.

Not one of them has anything closely resembling the value of Nash even unretained.

No reason for NYR to trade Nash if they dont get a good prospect or pretty high pick back. Get alot worse if he is traded and thats not worth it unless they get a good return. Two options imo and that is trade Nash 50% retained for max return or keep him.

I can imagine Hitch salivating at the thought of Nash as a Blue. I hope that he's never a Blue. He's way overpriced. The proposed deal wouldn't work cap wise. The Blues would have to be sending another player like Lehtera @ 4.7 for it to fit under the cap. Just say no to Rick Nash.

This is actually not that bad of a deal. Is there a chance the Rangers could have Schmaltz instead of Sergeev? I'd sign off on that as a Rangers fan if so.

Blues get a good chance to win a cup.

Its the off-season. They should be able to make some moves to clear room for a 4.8 mill salary.

The Blues aren't in cap trouble next summer. Steen & Berglund will be free agents. J-Bow should be exposed to the new Vegas team, that's 5.4 million. They'll have to sign Parayko but he'll be a RFA. The Blues should be in really good shape next summer barring taking on inflated salaries like Nash has.

According to General Fanger Blues are sitting at $64 million with 22 players signed. Remaining RFA IS Schwartz.
