Guess who gave the Columbus job? JD. Would they have that kind of role in an NHL organization if they weren't in his family? Probably not. Doesn't mean they don't do a good job, but it could definitely be seen as concerning.

I'm with you in terms of disliking the nepotism that is rampant throughout the league but scouting is such a vague, squishy thing that actually being able to empirically identify one person as being better at scouting than any other person is a fool's errand. For years the Ken Holland Red Wings were geniuses with the greatest scouts around because of Datsyuk and Zetterberg but, to paraphrase Holland, if they had actually had any idea how good those two guys were they never would have waited so long to draft them.

If JD were hiring his cousin who just finished coaching high school hockey in Columbus to be his salary cap guy I'd be annoyed but this I couldn't possibly care less about.
