The 90s taught me to hate action movies. Pretty much all of them. I've been Pavlovically trained to fall asleep at the merest hint of a car chase.

The Matrix was good though. Seven, 12 Monkeys yes, though those would certainly not slot into the action genre

Die Hard is a fantastic script made by a fantastic director in John McTiernan. Fleshed out characters, consistent themes, humour, a developed sense of space, and some really great action photography all played out in a well plotted and logical cat and mouse game.

It's on the action movie Mount Rushmore for a very good reason.

Hell, it inspired an entire decade of movies trying to copy its formula. And some of them (like Speed) were pretty damn good in their own right.

If you want to talk about the diminishing returns on the sequels that's another discussion but the original Die Hard is a true classic and one of the best examples of the action genre.

If a person doesn't like Die Hard they don't really like action movies. Or Christmas movies. Yeah I said that.
