Great, just another 20 pt guy to potentially block kids, why the **** 2 years ????

Just one year without these types being on the team, just one !
My issue is that every coach uses him in the top 9.

Like you, I dislike this.

Maybe they are planning a Raffl-Laughton-Hartman 4th line....which is a hell of a lot better than what we have iced. And NAK ans the 13th forward?????

Oh for ****s sake. There was no market for the guy at the trade deadline so let's extend him.

Who said there was no market for him?

$1.6m is really cheap. Not that I want him buried in the AHL, but most of the cap hit would be covered.

What is a Buried Contract?

Teams do not receive full cap relief when a player on a one-way NHL contract is reassigned to the American Hockey League, or is loaned to a team in another professional league.
The players salary cap hit, minus the sum of the minimum NHL salary for the respective season and $375,000, still counts towards the team’s salary cap total.
The cap hit relief is therefore equal to the minimum salary of the respective season + $375,000:
  • 2014-15: $550,000 + $375,000 = $925,000
  • 2015-16: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000
  • 2016-17: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000
  • 2017-18: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000
  • 2018-19: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000
  • 2019-20: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000
  • 2020-21: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000
  • 2021-22: $750,000 + $375,000 = $1,125,000

Good deal. Solid player that can fill in anywhere. Think this gives us another guy to expose at ED coming up as well
That's the thing...... he can't play anywhere. He's out of his element when they use him on the top lines

Coach Q will love this type of guy, I had hoped these options would no longer be available, and we would go finally give some kids a shot at 4th line, oh well.

I understand, and begrudgingly agree, with those of you who have pointed out that Raffl is a) a valuable bottom sixer who is b) much better than dreckle and jekyll currently haunting the fourth line. But Raffl is also the low-hanging fruit that makes me anxious about establishing a youth-supporting meritocracy on the 2019-20 line-up. Raffl resigned ticks the opportunity lower to properly evaluate whether NAK can make the Flyers and muddies opportunities for someone like Farabee to grab a spot with an excellent preseason showing.

I'm thinking that the collective her are generally okay with the notion of Raffl being the 12th / 13th forward, but I bet there is a good degree of clenching at the very real possibility he sees more ice time than he deserves at the expense of seeing what a younger option can do.

If they keep him on the 4th line then ok but he probably isn't going to stay there because he'll go on his 2 week streak where he looks like a top line player and he'll be playing with giroux for a month and get 3 assists

He’s pretty much been used in a 3rd/4th role for years now.

At $1.6M he's a cheap insurance policy, you have to pay $800K or so for a rookie to fill that roster spot, so it costs you all of $800K to have an above average 4th line player fill out your roster. Go look at what worse players received in free agency last summer.
He had 21 ES points last year, 17 in 61 games this year, that's good production for that money.

Value isn’t the issue, this is a fair deal. Just a matter of if he ends up blocking a kid. Although Knight/Varone/Bailey are all first on the chopping block anyway.

Trying to understand their thought process, I assume they are ok with Laughton as the #4C.

Or maybe they look at it that signing Raffl is free, and now can include a kid like NAK in a trade.

If he does play on the 4th line, at least it means we have a good 4th liner. Something that has not been a given the least few years.

It’s not that a hate Raffl, well I low key do because he’s as vanilla as can be 90% of the time - but why not wait to see if there is an upgrade available?

The infatuation with warm body guys who simply “play the right way”, is disturbing.

He’s not bad, but why not wait to upgrade, or see what’s out there.

Honestly surprised Benny hasn’t name dropped Brandon Tanev yet.

I wanted him, his speed and PK skills would of been a huge add. Or maybe NAK could of been our version, oh well tho.

And hes a 3rd liner on a top team, he and Raffl arent even comparable.
