What option would you take?

Hughes. He's already proven, and will be great. Too much risk at #2 in comparison. Obviously i'd take Lafreniere at #1 first.

Even without the risk factor - i think hughes likely ends up the best player vs #2 (whoever you think that should be)

I'll go against the grain and say I see more upside in Byfield / Stutzle...but wayyy riskier since Hughes is already a proven star offensive d-man.

I'll take Hughes. He's only enhanced his value post draft. Always liked him predraft and had him highly rated. So this one is very easy now that he has knocked his rookie year out of the ballpark.

Hughes for sure. He's young and proven, and has the kind of high end talent that you'd hope to get at #2. Byfield/Stutzle would need to come out big to overtake Hughes.

Definitely would take Hughes.

Gotta love the upside of the top-5 of this draft, but you can’t pass on a more proven phenomenal young talent, in Hughes.

If I were a rebuilding team I would want Byfield

Quinn Hughes is a 20 year old #1D and one of 3 defenders to win the rookie storing race ever, the others were Bobby Orr and Brian Leetch.

The answer is QuHu because there's less risk and similar upside.

I'm still not sure of the long-term career of QH and still would select him over the 2OA.

Laf vs Hughes should be closer than this poll.
1st overall picks aren't sure fire successes.
I'd take Quinn over Jack Hughes, i'd take him over Hischier too (poor devils lol ). I'd take him over Yakupov and RNH too.

So really, i'd take Quinn Hughes over 4 of the last 10 first overall picks.
I don't think its too wild to pick him over Lafreniere too :P

I’d probably take Hughes over Lafreniere too.

I’m a big believer in Lafreniere, but it’s way harder to find #1 defenceman than elite wingers.

plus I would never recommend trading a known elite player for an unproven commodity, even if the pick has a bit higher potential

Id take Hughes over anyone not named Lafreniere.

that being said, if the leafs get 1OA id be more than happy with a 1OA for Hughes + 2021 1st kinda deal

depends what lafreneier becomes. if its a perennial 100+pt guy those are harder to come across than 55pt dmen

Well Quinn was on pace for around 60 points as a 20-year-old rookie who was better the last part of the season as his responsibilities grew.
He won't even reach his peak for another 3-4 years and with his iq and drive who knows what his limit is.
Laf may end up being a 100 point type of player, or he may top out much less. It's moot tho since after a #1 centre, a#1 D that can tilt the ice like Q is always more important then a winger IMO.

I guess, because if he’s a consistent 100+ point guy he’d be the best player in the league, or very close to it.

True. Except Hughes has already shown he’s more than a 55pt dman before the age of 21.
