Vancouver selected Hughes over Boqvist - why would they make that trade now? And, as a Hawks fan, I'm happy we got Boqvist and want to keep him.

Hughes may have the better defensive value but Boqvist offensive skills is outstanding.

so the question is, what does the different org value defense vs offense.

Didnt Q Hughes just play in 2 worlds and a cup of tea in NHL ?

At the very least the cost would be what it would have cost Chicago to jump from 8th spot to 6th spot at the draft. Aka jump ahead of Van to take Hughes. There are charts out there that can give value to that.

Maybe 2nd and 3rd ?

But even then I think Van stays with the NHL ready tantalizing dman.

Vancouver would want us to add. I wouldn’t add anything to Boqvist to trade for Hughes.

If Boqvist doesn't sustain concussion problems along the way, you are potentially looking at a Top 10 D-man in the NHL in 3 years. We're finally building a D foundation for years to comes and Mitchell is a question mark. Not a bad question, but not in the cards.
