The thread about the cap says there will be a weighted average of your payroll done 3 times during the year....can somebody confirm what the weighting will be? I am under the soft cap now, but I want to be sure to leave myself room to add at the deadline.

I quote this from the final manifesto Drew wrote during the Admin discussion.

As the Sim does not accurately capture avg game exepnses during the season
(it only shows current game expenses) the following method will be used to
calculate cap adherence.
(i) There will be three check points, start of season, game 30-35, and the
trade deadline but there are no penalties attached to any single
checkpoint.
(ii) Team payroll will be recorded at each check point on a
spreadsheet and weighted average of the three will be used to determine
luxury tax and
annual excess of hard cap (plus applicable penalties) at season end.
(iii) To avoid timing issues related to injuries impacting pro payroll and
possibly close the gap with regards to teams hiding players on their farm
team we will calculate payroll at these points as such - Top 21 OV
players at 100% of salary (excluding 'dummy' types) regardless of whether
they are on the farm or pro team, and all others at 10%. If there is a tie
of multiple players with an equal OV for the 21st position the highest
salary player will be used.

This will answer some question.

It is point 2 in that list that I am asking about...what exactly will the weighting for the average be?

Important note: There is a cap monitoring add-on for the Sim that we need to look into and may use it instead if it is effective. Only if this cap monitoring tool is deficient will we be using this manual approach.

The weighting will reflect the number of games played under the last measurement.

Example.
1st Measurement is taken at the start of the season (say payroll = $30M)
2nd at approx. game 33 (Payroll = $32M)
3rd at approx game 65 (Payroll = $40M ... assume salary taken on at trade deadline)

Calculation would be ...
$30M x (32/82) = $11.7M
+$32M x (33/82) = $12.9M
+$40M x (18/82) = $ 8.8M
Total = $33.4

The reason for the weighting is thus ...
(i) The number of games played by each team by the secong measurement period will vary slightly
(ii) b/c we needed to have the 3rd measurement be at the trade deadline (which is past the two thirds mark) it would not be fair to assign an equal weight to all measurements.

We would be monitoring trade activity just following a measurement period to make sure nothing 'suspicious' is occuring. If that occurs we may need to recalculate.
