PTD 2014

  • Draft the best team of players born in 1960 or later
  • Each team drafts 12 forwards, 6 defencemen, and 2 goalies
  • Please PM the next GM after making your pick
  • GMs with skipped picks will be auto-skipped until they make up all their skipped picks
  • We will use two methods to vote on the best team: the Polls Forum and GM votes, so there can be two winners to this game

Polls Section Voting
  • Standings - Group A (Calgary, Colorado, Detroits, New Jersey, San Jose)
  • Standings - Group B (Chicago, Edmonton, Montreal, NY Islanders, Pittsburgh)
  • 3rd Place (Edmonton vs. New Jersey)
  • PTD Finals (Detroit vs. Montreal)

Voting Results

I don't think that forum has the patience for such a slow draft (12 hours per pick, etc.). If the mods feel that this does not belong in the ATD forum, please delete it.

So basically, it's a draft of every player who began his career after 1980 or so (born after 1960). Gretzky just barely makes the cut. Interesting. Could be a fun thing during "ATD off season." Of course, the traditional MLD would remain stickied.

As a draft of historical players (even recent history), it should belong on this board; I'd just be a little worried that it won't see as many eyes - assuming you are serious about running this thing, you would be allowed to post ONE ad for it on the history board - I think you could get people who want to draft players they've seen but would find the "all-time" thing intimidating.

To add to what I said, the ATD board really should be considered the fantasy subforum of the history board and will be treated as such by the moderators. This is a history-based fantasy draft; therefore it can go here. The traditional ATDs/MLDs, etc will be stickied to keep them separate.

Thanks TheDevilMadeMe. My idea to run the draft from 1960 onwards was so I could include greats like Bourque and Gretzky, but not older players that younger members may not know.

I am serious about running this, but I will be focusing more on updating the draft table. I was hoping the members can help keep the draft running along because I am not on all the time. With a longer clock from 6-12 hours, I think this is manageable.

I am also worried about a lack of participants for this game, so I will use your permission to advertise this draft on the history forum.

:headache:

I disagree strenuously!

It would be going down the slippery slope to the death of the drafts. This board was set up for all-time drafts not recent past drafts!

And this board has always had ONE draft at a time.

I didn't know there would be such backlash regarding this draft. I will let the moderators weigh in on the matter. I am okay if they feel it is better to cancel the draft in order to maintain the integrity of the ATD.

He is just a very conservative tradiotionalist.

The decision has already been made by hfboards mods (and not just Hawkey Town and myself) that the ATD board is the most appropriate forum for history-based fantasy games.

Anyone who doesn't like this type of draft can refrain from clicking on the thread(s). Any further questions about the placement of other history-based fantasy drafts should be directed via PM.

I think a less intimidating draft like this would draw more interest to the board and ultimately generate more participation for all drafts. Besides, what about people who don't have interest in participating in the lower drafts? I think the lower drafts are great, I follow them, and I am very impressed by the research that is done but I don't have an interest in participating. Something more casual like this does interest me. Just because 8-12 people are doing one kind of draft shouldn't mean everyone else has to sit around and wait...if there's an alternative draft then those interested should have the opportunity to pursue it.

Edit: as TDMM said, further discussion should be done via PM

One suggestion I have is to have the GMs vote instead of the poll section or perhaps do both...would be interested to see a comparison. The historical knowledge on the polls board is not close to what the GMs have...understand that the 1980 cutoff tries to make it so most voters will have seen the players themselves but many posters on the site never saw prime Jägr let alone the guys from the 80s.

I also understand that this is suppose to be more casual so even if GMs did vote it could be done without matchup discussion threads.

Could do both - could have GMs vote the same we we vote for regular season standings in the ATD; AND also put it on the polls board and compare.

Thanks for clarifying things up, mods! I have decided to implement two voting systems as suggested by some of the members. We will conduct a poll and have a GM vote, so there can be two winners to this game.

For the Polls voting, I was going to place the teams into groups to determine who makes the playoffs and then we can do head-to-head matchups from there. Let's say we get 12 teams. We can maybe have 3 polls with 4 teams on each poll. The top 2 teams from each poll advances to the playoffs.

As for the GM vote, I assume there is an initial vote to determine the standings. Then we have the playoffs run based on seeding.

Playoffs in these things are really time consuming. I'm fine if you want to have them, but I'm fine with just a GM vote for the regular season, too. Whatever.

Yeah I'm not a fan of this either but whatever as long as it doesn't interfere with the main draft it's no big deal.
