Seriously, that's really cool. I hope the kid pans out so we can all look back at the Ledoofus talk and laugh. Scott has been a great sport about it though when he's not frothing at the mouth. ;)

Did not forget about you PW, you can be the executive director of the Loic Leduc Fan Club.
We have some fun with Scott but he's a good sport about it.

Scott I was going to post this about a month ago but thought nothing would come from it so I didn't. Sent a letter with a few dollars to cover postage to Cape Breton asking for an autographed picture of Leduc. Just got my mail from today and guess what, I"m the proud owner of the only Loic Leduc autographed picture in the world. In my letter I wrote about being an Islander fan since 1972 and how much I follow and root for the prospects. The team gave my letter to Loic and besides the picture he enclosed a short note thanking me for being interested and if ( a big if) he makes the NHL he hopes I come watch him play. I will send out another note saying to Loic I am rooting for him and will certainly come. We make funny jokes but he really sounds like a great, kid, to write back. Proof that hockey players are the best, never expected him to write a few words to me.

I guess this makes me president of the Loic Leduc fan club. Scott, if you wish you can be the Vice President.

Great story Degen Rex ! I'm rooting for the kid. I thought he accounted pretty well for himself at the rookie scrimmage, looked better than he did at last years. Also, looked like he gained 30 pounds. I actually have him on my twitter, and I remember a teammate being so excited when Leduc visited the team in May (he blew out his knee in January I believe). Just seeing how happy that teammate was to see Leduc made me realize he's obviously well liked and a good guy. Your story confirmed it. Nothing would satisfy me more than if he winds up a decent shutdown 3rd pairing guy in the NHL, kinda like Carkner.

Really it was because of what goes on here made me send the letter but with the way Loic responded makes it worthwhile. It"s nice to have someone rooting for you and he appreciated it. Like you watched the rookie game and he did well, did not look out of place like the year before. We are Islander fans, we want the prospects to do well. Most of all we have several prospect fanatics here, ITM, Chapin, PW, you, ect. We can come here, check the prospects daily and get a range of opinions that are interesting. The best is in about a month from now it begins all over again.

Agree 100% Rex. We are all Islander's fans and we ALL want the Islander's prospects to do well. And you are exactly right in saying in about a month, it all starts over again, and man I can't wait ! I'm going to the exhibition game at Barclay's on Sept 21, that will be a joyous day for me. It'll be fun to say I saw the first hockey game ever at Barclays !

Thanks for the shout out DRex, but I don't belong with the names mentioned. You guys are awesome and I get a lot more out of it than you get from me. I appreciate the shout out though. :)

I think we have a great little community here on HF Isles. We can act like children from time to time, but there's a lot of respect around here. Makes modding easy! :handclap:

This is the best prospect group we've had in some time. It's comparable to the Berard, Brewer, Connolly, Bertuzzi, Pyatt, Torres, etc. days - without the fear that Milbury will trade everyone away for Kvasha clones. We have a lot to talk about in this thread. I'm definitely excited and can't wait for the season to start!

I'm going to have to come down for that BC preseason game too. I don't feel like you bragging about it for eternity that you were there and not have a comeback. ;)

Haha, my fellow Loic Leduc Fan Club members! Love it.

Good story DRex.

Whenever you see a kid like Loic get drafted, much less at a stage that is generally deemed FAR too early, it has to make you wonder who in the staff was sooooo doggone convinced of his possibilities and why they felt he couldn't wait until rounds 6 or 7.

In any case, I sure as heck hope that the Isles took him because they KNOW that all they have to do is improve parts X and Y of his game in order for him to be an NHLer. Certainly has the size and the possibility for great strength.

I am sure mailing in a few dollars to cover postage, ect helped but never expected more than just an autographed picture, never expected to getaway short note from Loic, very classy to go far beyond the picture request. As you say. hope the staff did see something in Leduc because going into the draft it was questionable if a team would even take him. I am going to send a thank you letter to him through the Cape Breton team, once again wishing him the best of luck in his career and promise to come watch him play if he makes it (likely a long shot), his next step is try to earn a contract.
PS-I am not an autograph hound, I only sent the request out because of the board.

ITM and Chapin lead the prospect section but you, Scott and myself are the ones who take the most interest following prospects daily and game by game.

If the Isles drafted him, I have faith in the kid. With the emphasis on character, the Isles must have liked him and were willing to take him as a project. I know his fighting ability has been mocked around here, but he doesn't seem to hesitate dropping the gloves for whatever reason. It's definitely an encouraging sign that the difference between his 1st and 2nd prospect camps was noticeable. Watch him add another 20 pounds of rip by next year.

I know it all started as a joke, but he's now become my darkhorse prospect to make it. I am a proud member of the Loic Leduc fan club! If you write him back DRex, let him know that you're not alone and that we're rooting for him.

I don't know Rex, you're always leading the way hitting us with daily stats, the only thing I add is reading the daily stats, lol. I enjoy what you guys bring to the table as far as stats and videos (Thanks ITM). And Chapin has awesome insight into the prospects with firsthand viewings. I only comment when I see the prospects on TV, The NHL Network mainly. I actually think Sidney the Kidney has excellent insight on prospects as well, he sees a lot of OHL games. I don't always agree with what he says, but I appreciate the insight, since he is seeing these guys on a nightly basis.

Sidney brings a lot, he just does not post all the time like we do. Since all the radio broadcasts are available free on the computer and the IPad I listen.

Dylan Strome is starting his CHL career with McDavid in Eerie, he had a little info about his big brother...

Erie Otters’ Dylan Strome raring to read off of Connor McDavid: Making The Jump
http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/jr...-strome-raring-read-off-connor-130308380.html

"I think people are going to be really surprised at how strong he's gotten over the summer. He's worked out harder than I've ever seen anyone do before. He works out with [New York Islanders star] John Tavares every morning. I think a lot of people are going to be surprised come the training camp for the Islanders."

(I was hoping you might take a little sibling-rivalry swipe at him such as, "well, he doesn't like to do housework.) "He doesn't pick up the pucks after he shoots them in the backyard, I know that."

That's good to hear. Thanks for posting that PW.

I have a strong feeling that even if Strome has a strong camp, he'll still be sent to Bridgeport for the beginning of the season until an injury hits.

BTW, I heard Strome's brother is even better than him. One can only imagine what his ceiling will be especially when you consider that he's going to be playing with McDavid. :naughty:

So now we can close that chapter. Weird 2010 Draft, but Nelson by himself looks worth it. If KK can develop into a 3rd line type that can contribute, we'll get 2 NHL players out of it.

Not bad for having only 6 selections. Also, there is an NHL player you are forgetting about.... Cal Clutterbuck.

Whatever way you slice it, that Nino selection got the Islanders a legit NHL player.

Just listening to Oilers Now on CHED, guest was new Oil Kings GM Randy Mancsh (Bob Green took a job with the Oilers).Good amount of Reinhart talk.

Mancsh recently talked to Snow who says that camp decides what to do with Griff. Mancsh told Snow that if Reinhart returns to Edmonton, he will be the one counted on both offensively and defensively as the clear top guy on the D.

Interesting that the style of game Griff plays was compared to Serge Savard. Don't know how many of you are old enough to have seen him play in the 60-70"s but he was a great player. Savard was considered a big defenseman at the time but rarely hit, angling players for the most part. He could he been more offensive but with what Montreal had at the time it was not needed of him. The comparison comes from the poise, no panic, just about mistake free game Savard played and doing those subtle little things that can make such a difference.

Interesting style comparison, if Griff becomes half the player Savard was he is going to help the Islanders win games.

The host of the show Oilers radio color man Bob Stauffer is one who believes that an extra year of junior will be good for Griff as it was foe Alex Pietrangelo.

Thanks for posting this DRex. Serge Savard, I like it. I think an extra year in Junior would do wonders for Reinhart's game. I wouldn't be surprised if he's ready to jump to the NHL afterwards. He'll most likely get some AHL time, but he's got the talent and pedigree to make the leap after another strong campaign at Edmonton.

This is the year the Isles are going to find out if Hickey and Donovan are part of the long-term answer in the NHL.

We'll have to see where Reinhart and de Haan fit in next season. I somehow doubt any other self-drafted Dmen will be ahead of them by then.

Really want to see what Reinhart does as the top guy and not just filling a role.
When drafted fourth like Reinhart was, I want to see more than just a defensive specialist. Not expecting him to be a big offensive player but there is more there that we have not seen yet.
