I know that no one actually knows if a prospect will truly develop into an NHLer and what their ceiling will be, but just for fun predict which of these following Senators prospects will make it into the NHL and with what role. (In brackets are my personal estimations in which you may argue against ;))

Dreidger, G (Backup G)
Stone, RW (2nd line PWF)
Guptill, LW (2/3rd line PWF)
Puempel, LW (top-six goal scorer)
Prince, LW (Bust)
Hoffman, LW (depth scorer/PP specialist)
Paul, LW/C (depth player)
Lazar, C/RW (2C)
Pageau, C (Bust)
Grant, C (4th line PK special, AKA Zack Smith)
Ceci, D (top-pairing d-man)
Borowiecki, D (solid 3rd pairing d-man)
Claesson, D (depth d-man)
Wikstrand, D (call-up)
Harpur, D (monster depth d-man)

Realistically, Lazar, Stone, Ceci and Puempel should be regular NHLers at some point. The rest are very iffy.

pageau won't bust. He's already a good 3rd/4th liner. If not with us then with someone else

My guess at what they become if they develop good. Brackets = ceiling.

Stone = 20-25 goals, 35-40 assists(60pts)
Guptill No idea
Puempel = 25 goals, 20 assists(60pts)
Prince = 15-20 goals, 25-30 assists(50pts)
Hoffman = 15-20 goals, 20 assists(50pts)
Paul No idea
Lazar = 25-30 goals, 25-30 assists(70pts)
Pageau = 15-20 goals, 20-30 assists(50 points)
Grant 10 goals, 10 assists(20 points)

Ceci 20-24mins, 35-45 points
Borowiecki 10-16mins
Claesson 20-24mins, 15 points
Wikstrand 18-22mins, 30-40 points
Harpur 15-18 mins

Dreidger Goalies are too unpredictable.

Pageau is just another little Conacher. Time to cut our strings with him.

there is nothing remotely similar about Conacher and Pageau other than maybe their height.

Your sentence may just as well read ''Pageau is just another little St. Louis. Time to cut our strings with him.'', which would make absolutely no sense

If he was already a good 3rd/4th liner, he would have played more than 28 games in the NHL last year, I'm sure. I think a good 3rd/4th liner is about his ceiling. I'd look for 6-8G, 10-15A seasons on average once he peaks. But he'll be the kind of 4th liner you really, really like and want to keep. Not just a guy you have to use up a roster space. Jarkko Ruutu without the biting and tongue-wagging.

I honestly think Pageau could have stepped into Condra's role and performed better.

Stone - 2nd line 50-60 pt guy
Guptill - cup of tea as a 3rd line pp specialist, ultimately fails
Hoffman - see Guptill
Puempel - consistent 20+ guy who flirts with 30 a couple times
Prince - inconsistent but skilled 3rd liner who does a lot right and is an impact player when on his game
Paul - strong 4th liner who can pot 10-15 goals in a good year
Lazar - 2nd line winger or elite 3rd line C
Pageau - depth player who bounces around the league for 5-10 years, maybe has a few 30 point years
Grant - 4th line spot duty, not enough offensive ability to stick
Ceci - 2nd pairing anchor
Borowiecki - Matt Carkner role type (despite being a better player) with a longer NHL shelf life
Claesson - good, steady depth Dman
Wikstrand - ahl to nhl briefly to Sweden
Harpur - impact depth Dman

or Murray think its better for his development to be in the AHL instead of playing with Kassian.

Also plausible is they don't like him on the wing, and liked Spezza, Turris, Zibanejad and Smith better than him.

Lots of possibilities why a capable, young 4th or even 3rd liner could be held out of the lineup.

Absolutely. He's already 21, clearly there's no chance for him to get any better. I doubt any team would want him anyway. Might as well leave him by the dumpster behind the CTC.
