I am bored in quarantine so decided to try and make a format that the NHL could follow for determining playoff teams. My goal was to be fair to teams and also keep the number of games played reasonable. Hopefully nobody has posted this same idea...
My idea starts by sorting every team by point percentage and then giving the top two teams in each division one of the top 4 seeds in the conference. Then the next 8 teams get entered into the proposal while the remaining teams are eliminated from contention. Take a look at how the games work and let me know what you like and don't like.

Game #17 occurs in the scenario where both teams played each other in a previous round and are now tied 1-1
Game #18 occurs in the scenario where both teams played each other in a previous round and are now tied 1-1
