Prime Gretzky for one season or Jonathan Toews for his whole career?

Ill take the guy that was a top player in the league for 5 years and a top player at his position for damn near 10 years.

Toews for his career.

Gretzky played 20 seasons and won 4 Stanley Cups.

That's 16 seasons where he didn't win the Cup.

And he won the Cups on a historically stacked Oilers team.

Toews can give you at least 10 years of great play, he might not be a top 5 player in the league even during his prime but he's demonstrated he can be the 1C on a Cup-winning team.

10 years? Cut that number in half

Toews. I'd rather bank on being able to create a winning team over 15+ years than 1 year with the GOAT.

I think I’d take Gretzky and enjoy the season. I typically defend Toews here a lot and think he was a great player at his best, but his prime is relatively short, and as good as he was it’s not the same as the other poll of 15 years of prime Crosby where you’re likely to build a cup winner around him at some point. I don’t think Toews guarantees you anything. Gretzky doesn’t either, but I’m sure the season would be a lot more fun than anything other than a finals run with Toews.

Hard to believe on solely points it takes close to Toews three best seasons to equal one Gretzky.

Would depends on the team. I’m a habs fan. So if you offered me one season of prime Gretzky right now I wouldn’t even take it (unless I could trade it of course)

Yea, Habs would have no use as even prime Gretzky would not be able to help this train wreck compete for the cup.
