Cliffy has said that he doesn't want to play much in the preseason and would prefer to practice lots (per Hamilton)

Hmm, sounds a little strange, I didn’t know that players can choose whether they want to play or not. But okay.

It's more like Clifton went to Granato and made his case for why he should play fewer games so he can go harder in practice, and Granato decided to agree with him and permit his request. If Granato said "no, I want you to play" that would be that, Clifton would be playing.

I read in another post that Clifton asked Granato to only play in a couple preseason games. He said practices would help him learn the system better or something along those lines.

Johnson told Granato he doesn't really need pres-season games to get ready...He said he's been doing it for a while and knows what he has to do...Granato agreed with him.
