The "LOOKING FORWARD" thread will soon be nearing 1000 posts. So, let's start discussing possible line combos for next season as well as who will be here and who won't.

I would like to see most of the same crew here with the injection of a rookie or 2 at forward and the obvious rookies at D.

Here is what I see:

TOP 2 LINES

Lucic - Krejci - Horton
Marchand - Bergeron - Seguin

Re: Horton - Think he stays at a "bit" of a hometown discount. Chia seems intent on keeping him and seems willing to move Boychuk or Seidenberg to do so.

Re: Seguin - Still want to see him become a Center - but it is looking more and more like he will be a career winger if he remains with the Bs.

BOTTOM 2 LINES

Soderberg - Kelly - Spooner
Thornton - Campbell - Paille

Re: Peverley - Pretty obvious he will be gone shortly. Not sure why Chia won't use a compliance buyout here, but I imagine he has some offers on the table and that's why.

Re: Spooner - Think he makes the team out of camp.

Re: Paille - Could see Paille on the 3rd line with Kelly and someone else take his spot on the 4th line if Spooner doesn't make the team. ie Knight?

Re: Soderberg - Can't wait to see a full year out of him and also playing against some weaker teams.

D-MEN

Chara - Seidenberg/Boychuk
Hamilton - Bartkowski
McQuaid - Krug

Re: Seidenberg/Boychuk - Would love to see both Boychuk and Seidenberg stay, but I think it is getting very obvious that 1 has to go to retain Horton. Don't agree...but think that is the direction that Chia is leaning. Not sure who I would rather be the odd man out...but I think it will be Boychuk...but should be Seidenberg.

GOAL

Rask
Svedberg/Khudobin

Re: Svedberg/Khudobin - If Khudobin takes $1.2M or less to stay, it will be him, otherwise it will be Svedberg. If Khudobin wants to start, there may be some interest - maybe Chia can get a pick or move up in the draft for his rights? Or maybe this can be a deal that involves Peverley to get him moved.

Can't see much else happening.

As for extras...Redden could return as 7th d-man as could Johnson. Camara, Caron or Daugavins can be the 13th forward. Although I think Chia will deal for some depth either soon or before the trading deadline.

Chara-Hamilton
Seidenbrg-Boychuk
Krug-McQuaid

I hate my third line, btw. Three lefty centers together doesn't seem like it would work well, but who knows. I have been on record as stating I don't think handedness matter all that much based on personal playing experience, but man could the Bruins use some right wing depth

I'm with the poster that said I would rather see Boychuk stay and Seidenberg go; but either would be a big hit to our defense. I see them possibly re-upping Redden as their 7th defenseman on the cheap if either is traded.

Can we afford this? I think it is just over the cap by a few million even with Savard's LTIR going to cover Boychuk or Seidenberg.

Lucic - Krejci - Horton
Marchand - Bergeron - Seguin
Kelly - Soderberg - Knight
Paille - Campbell - Thornton

Chara - Boychuk
Seidenberg - Hamilton
Krug - McQuaid

Rask

seriously though, who knows? I think Chiarelli will keep Boychuk and move Paille up to the 3rd line instead and promote some young guys. I think the team really struggles next year to score goals.

I don't see Soderberg - Kelly - Spooner as a likely combo. All natural C's and all LH shots.

I think its unrealistic to expect to compete for Stanley Cup Finals this upcoming season with such a bruising, lengthy run this year, especially it ending so late and a full season starting quite soon, so....

Lucic-Krejci-Horton
Marchand-Bergeron-Knight
Soderberg-Spooner-Seguin
Paille-Campbell-Thornton
Dauginvins/Caron

Chara-Boychuk
Seidenberg-Hamilton
Krug-McQuaid
Bartkowski

Rask
Khudobin

Though Chia will never trade Kelly... even though they have like 500 centers in the organization

Agree pretty much with everything the op said, but i doubt that 3rd line is any better than what we had this year.
Yes, it has more potential but will it work? 3 centers? I dont see a place for Sponer even thoug i love him as a prospect, maybe it works on the wing..and i would really, really like to see Carl at centre but Kelly is not very good on the wing. All in all, i agree with the names but i cant see them working together. We shall see.

Source says #Bruins were upbeat in Kaspars Daugavins' exit interview and the expectation is he'll back next season.

Soderberg-Kelly-Caron
Paille-Campbell-Thorton
Daugavins

Chara-Hamilton
Seids-Boychuck
McQuaid-Krug

Spooner needs to be at center. I think he's pretty much made comments he can't play wing? (reading between the lines anyway?)

With just the names I listed above we are $445,833k above the cap if you assume that Tuukka is at $6m AAV and Horton is $5m AAV. Obviously we need to pay a 13th skater and 7th d, but on the surface that lineup works cap wise.

They might have to dump someone like McQuaid's salary which is $1.5m, but it makes enough room to add Daugavins as the 13th and keep a guy like Bart or Redden/Johnson as 6th D. I don't want to move McQuaid, which is why I listed what I posted as my ideal lineup.

If that lineup works, which is does just BARELY, I think you keep everyone on board and get creative with finding ways to afford your 13th skater and 7th d. The cap probably will go up next season.

EDIT: Even with Daugavins and Johnson written into the roster at their current salaries $698,500k and $650,000k respectively, we'd be only $902,667k over the cap limit. I trust Chia will figure it out.

I will be shocked in Patrice is ready to go in early October, Same with Horton. I would expect both to miss a few weeks at the start of next season. This is a very short off-season for these guys.

I don't feel comfortable like some people here about writing 3 rookie defesemen into the roster right now. Hamilton I am fine with because he was here all season and can be "hidden" by being paired with Chara/Seidenberg. Krug was GREAT against NYR, ok against PITT, and calm and composed vs Chicago. Bart was good during this call up as well, but it tells me something that they played Krug over him throughout the entire playoff run after Toronto. Maybe he doesn't have a place here, idk.

All I'm saying is that I would be weary of throwing out 3 rookie d-men next year. If two of them struggle at once and we have moved Boychuk or McQuaid to make room for them, we are going to be replacing one of whoever struggles with a guy like Aaron Johnson. That doesn't do it for me.

Spooner is my favorite B's prospect but I still don't feel he's ready, at least basing it off his play this year. I can't believe I'm seeing Knight mentioned as a candidate right now.

I left the 3rd line RW blank because I don't know nearly enough about our prospects. If I had to guess, it would be Knight, but I have no idea.
