Sad to say, I could totally see him signing Halak to a 3-year deal at $4 million per for no reason at all

I hope in that scenario the Canes are replacing Darling with an actual starter prior to signing Mrazek... Running with a Mrazek and Darling tandem is basically a lock to pick in the top 5 again for 2019.

I feel like the Canes don't want to take another chance on a backup goalie, if they feel they're ready to compete they'll probably pay the price for a legit starter.

Lehner goes to the Canes since they missed out on Grubauer
Ward sticks around in Carolina to be the backup to Lehner
Darling is traded to Chicago for Hossa's contract to clear a spot for Lehner and to give Chicago a guy who was a good backup for them
Mrazek signs with the Blues to push Allen and form a new goalie tandem
Halak goes to Buffalo to be a veteran backup capable of easing Ullmark into the starter's role

I wouldn't hate the Avs bringing Bernier back for another season. He's a decent backup that can put together 5-10 game streaks of almost being starter quality. It's not like we have anyone else who is proven capable of replacing Varly when he's inevitably hurt for half the season.

I would rather not sign Cam Ward.

Last 4 seasons: 207 GP, .907 sv pct

Last season in his first year with Chicago, Forsberg had a .908 sv pct behind a bad team and awful defense

would rather just let him keep the backup job pending now further issues with Crawford. If there are further issues with Crawford, they will go for someone with more upside and far less miles
