I have Marner signing at $9,250,000/8 and Matthews at $11,525,000/8. Ennis for $850,000/2 and Hutchinson at $1,050,000/2. Johnsson and Kapanen have been used in trades to get better Dmen (Pietrangelo) and Brown, Zaitsev, Gardiner, Lindholm and Hainsey are all either Cap Casualties and have to be sold off for picks or let walk in FA because we cant afford them/dont want them.

If youre saying that Gudas being up there is a bad thing I disagree. If youre going to win in the playoffs you need players like that. You need players that can hit hard and be physical.

In all honesty I like it, but what about Liljegren? Haven't been following the Marlies as much this year, not producing well?

Honestly, I hypothetically used him in a trade for Pietrangelo. I thought if you traded Johnsson + Kapanen + Liljegren + 2019 2nd you could get Pietrangelo, and then that saves us our 1st, which we can use to trade to Philly for Gudas. The Gudas Trade could look like 2019 1st + Nikita Zaitsev + Connor Brown + 2019 3rd for Gudas (50% Retained).

Bracco is not a 4th line player unfortunately and you also got rid of most of the leafs PK players so that isnt good. Bunch of rookies playing the PK is less than ideal.

Also that defense is awful green and honestly other than the 1st pairing likely far worse than the current defense.

I dont see that third pairing happening. Likely a stop gap vet plays on the third pairing with whatever rookie wins out the other spot (if Gards walks and Dermott plays 2nd pairing).

I think if Ennis can play on the 4th line, so can Bracco.

*IF* we could manage to facilitate a Marleau trade, I would keep Brown and maybe even give Zaitsev another chance with a new partner.

There is no way Matthews and Marner can get signed with Zaitsevs contract

How is Zaitsev the problem? Gudas is only making 1.15 mill less than him...

If money is a problem, which I do not forsee it being one, then Nylander or Marleau are the first casualties, because we should not have two 3rd line wingers taking up over 13 mill combined.

Hyman (2.25) - Tavares (11) - Marner (9.25)
Johnsson (2.5) -Matthews (11.525) - Kapanen (2.5)
Marleau (6.25) - Kadri (4.5) - Nylander (7)
Grundstrom (.900) - Aaltonen (.950) - Moore(.775)
Gauthier(.675) - Carcone(.700)

Rielly (5) - Martinez (4)
Dermott (.900) - Zaitsev (4.5M)
Rosen (.750) - Liljegren (.900)
Ozhiganov (1.025)

Andersen (5) - Sparks (.950)

Horton (5.3), Kessel (1.2)

Horton on LTIR puts us at 85 mill flat, assuming we do not have bonus overages (which we should not given how much cap space is left). At 83M, we'd need to find another 2 mill in savings somewhere... Most likely by not giving Matthews and Marner 25% of the cap combined when they are not worth it; not even for 8 years... Even if it means cutting down on term, they can probably find over 2 mill worth of savings right there. If cap is still a problem because let's say Johnsson or Kapanen ask for more, then Marleau (if we can move him) or Nylander (if we cannot) would likely be the first ones on the chopping block.

No Matthews???

I like Matthews...if I had favourite Leafs it would be him, but having said that, I think he would be a perfect fit in Vegas. He’d be close to home, be the bright star for the League and when the NFL team moves in the Knights will need a marketable superstar.

He may sign with the Leafs and I’d be OK with that, too. I’ll watch either way.

FIRE BABCOCK (IF OUT IN ROUND 1) --> HIRE COACH Q

TRADES:
Marleau to Sharks/Cap team for anthing

Nylander, Zaitsev & Brown <--> Anderson, Jenner & Savard (maybe a pick from CLB)

Kasperi Kapanen & 1st <--> Brett Pesce

BREAKDOWN:
First Line:
Top Line in the League next year. Matthews shot with Marner's playmaking and Andersons size make this line DANGEROUS --> 20 Minutes/Night

Second Line:
Elite Elite two way/shut down line. This line can play against the top competition every night and outscore them. Kadri and Simmonds will drive the other teams crazy, while allowing Tavares to take off offensively. Would be Scary on the forecheck --> 20 Minutes/Night

Third Line:
Good shut down line, that can play with an edge and provide offence. Probably not the best third line in the league, but could play against anyone --> 14 Minutes/Night

Fourth Line:
Its a 4th line --> 6 Minutes/Night

1.5 million under the cap

Kapanen* - Matthews - Nylander
Hyman - Tavares - Marner
Johnsson - Kadri - Moore
Grundstrom - Gauthier - Bracco*/Marchment/Engvall

Rielly - Jensen
Dermott - Zaitsev
Rosen - Ozhiganov

Sandin/Lilijegren could easily make the team as well. Bracco is a beast and will likely play a top-9 role, but no room for him right now there so might be better to keep him in the AHL.
