That's the thing. If we want to address our flaring needs, we need to be a real tram and trade some of our valuable but redundant pieces, instead of signing them to cushy contracts

Because you don't trade a top 5 pick to fill a need. You have roster players / prospects / other picks for that. A top 5 pick is the best shot at getting an extremely good young player for cheap. Did you not just watch the Sens trade back to back top 10 picks and they are currently below us in the standings? Constructing a good team doesn't require trading a top 5 pick. There's a reason why it hasn't happened since the cap has been introduced.

yes. This fan base will never want to trade someone coming off a statistically anomalous career year, thinking that is the new normal. When that is the exact time to pull the trigger when they have max value, especially if you have multiple needs to be met
