I think most would agree that the top 5 in this years class are........in no order.......

Adam Larsson
Sean Couturier
Gabriel Landeskog
Ryan-Nugent Hopkins
Ryan Murphy

I haven't seen enough games to give them a educated grade. Are there any 9's? Any B's?

Adam Larsson - 8.5C
Sean Couturier - 8.0B
Gabriel Landeskog - 7.5B
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins - 8.5C
Ryan Murphy - 7.5C

Here is a guide to help you with the ratings http://www.hockeysfuture.com/playerprojections/

Adam Larsson 8.0B
Sean Couturier 7.5B
Gabriel Landeskog 7.5B
Ryan-Nugent Hopkins 8.0C
Ryan Murphy 8.0C

Pretty meh top 5. I kinda want the Islanders to draft Murphy.

This is how I see it too and it would make sense if HF actually used their prospect marks the way they were designed rather than completely randomly.

Yeah I know. Its funny how a player suddenly has more upside when they get older. The prospect grade shouldn't be, too young so can't give them 8.0 or higher. Skinner had 7.5 C because he was 18 and wasn't a top 5 pick when clearly he has monsterus upside.

In all likely hood, Nugent-Hopkins and Murphy will both get 7.5 C's, even though both have bounds and bounds of potential.

I see this as a year without any true stud prospects, just a bunch of pretty good ones. Here are the grades the top prospects got in recent years:

2010:
1) Hall - 9.0 C
2) Seguin - 8.5 C

2009:
1) Tavares - 9.0 C
2) Hedman - 8.5 B
3) Duchene - 8.5 C

2008:
1) Stamkos - 8.0 B (lol)
2) Doughty - 9.0 C

2007:
1) Kane - 8.5 C
2) JVR - 8.0 B

etc.

I don't think there's a single super stud prospect on the level of the 9.0 Cs in these other drafts, I wouldn't give any prospect in this draft a grade above 8.0-8.5 regardless of the letter.

9.5s are extremely rare and reserved for much better prospects than Larsson. I don't know where this idea started that he is some kind of generational talent, seems like more of a guy with a decent chance of becoming a solid top pairing dman, which is more of an 8.0-8.5 grade. You are definitely overrating Couturier and Landeskog too.

Hedman was much more hyped than Larsson, it's revisionist history to talk about Hedman as not that hyped, he was considered by most Swedish fans/media/scouts to be a generational talent. Larsson is not a better prospect than Hedman was.

No he will have a high chance of reaching his potential.

"A - All but guaranteed to reach potential - 100 percent metaphysical certitude that the player will play up to his abilities as noted by his potential rating. In this case, the potential rating is multiplied by 100 percent for depth chart purposes, signaling that the player is a lock to reach his given potential."

B is what your looking for.
