Confirmed with Link: Predators Acquire 2nd in 2025, 7th in 2024 from Tampa Bay for Ryan McDonagh 4th in 2024

Nashville Predators General Manager Barry Trotz announced today that the team has acquired a seventh-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft and a second-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for defenseman Ryan McDonagh and Edmonton’s fourth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.

I really dont like the idea of giving him the 6x6 he thinks he can get. Zadorov would be fun but his 100 penalty minutes, plus lauzons 100 penalty minutes, plus schenns 60 penalty minutes would be a little burdensome

Can't say I expected this one, but it makes sense with all things considered (left D log jam, the inflated buyout caps hits this season, etc). He had a pretty good season but has 2 years left on his deal, so probably sold him at the right time. We didn't give up much to get him and now we got a 2nd rounder out of it

We turned mishmash and myers into 2 years with McDonough and 2nd round pick plus having 26 million in cap space. Man oh man trotz can build his team as he feels fit and please don’t bring carrier back we need some meanness in that defense

Really shocked by this - I wonder if he asked out. We got him for essentially free and he returned a 2nd after some good play, so I'll take it.

More moves definitely coming. Maybe a big free agent, but I think this lends some weight to the Marner rumors.

Yeah we've got $26M in cap space for next season now and I can't see any real reason to do this unless we're going to need the cap space for something.

It's definitely way too early to see the whole picture, but we can grab another vet while still getting younger.

If we can get Marner/Stamkos + another top 4 defenseman it'll be a great offseason.

Mac has been a warrior thus far, but I still look at his contract as a liability. His play may not drop off any more, but if it does then Trotz will have gotten ahead of the game clearing his cap and getting an asset back for him.

Remember, he was 2 years younger and obtained for practically free because his contract was expected to age poorly. We avoided that, but there's no guarantees things continue in that way.

I don't know, getting a 2nd for him is still a good move IMO, he's getting older and most likely just wanted back to TB. Stastny, Del Gaizo, Molendyk, Wilsby are all LHD.

Could see bringing in Pesce as a replacement. Similar playstyle to McDonagh but is younger and plays the right side. He had a bit of a down year which might mean we could get him on palatable contract.
