Since we are almost done the forum consensus prospect voting, and it's been slow here the last few days, it seems like a decent time for everyone to post there personal prospect ranking for the summer. Here is a link to the past two we have done...

Winter 2016

-------------------------------------------

:flyers

My personal rankings:

1- Travis Sanheim (LHD, 2014 1st rd)

2- Ivan Provorov (LHD, 2015 1st rd)

3- Phil Myers (RHD, 2015 undrafted FA)
It looks like most people want to see him have a repeat year before putting him in the upper echelon. I'm already sold. A 6'5 right-handed defenseman that can do everything. His numbers may even drop this year with the massive amount of talent Rouyn-Noranda is losing up front. We'll have to watch and see, but I'd bet his overall play keeps improving.

4- German Rubtsov (C, 2016 1st rd)
I've been watching some of his games that are on YouTube. His skating is better than I was expecting. Other than that, he seems exactly as advertised. A skilled, workhorse center, that plays in all situations.

5- Travis Konecny (RW, 2015 1st rd)
I love the guy but the injuries worry me some. It's a factor on why I'm willing to rank him lower than anyone else will. It also speaks to how highly I think of Myers and Rubtsov. Plus big, skilled 2-way centers and RHD are just flat out at a premium.

6- Samuel Morin (LHD, 2013 1st rd)

7- Pascal Laberge (RW, 2016 2nd rd)
A real coup by Hextall to trade back a few spots in the 1st, and land this pick for doing so in the early 2nd.

8- Oskar Lindblom (LW, 2014 5th rd)

9- Wade Allison (RW, 2016 2nd rd)
I'm not exactly sure what we have here with him, but it's mighty intriguing. A power forward with skill who finished the year in dominant fashion.

10- Mikhail Vorobyov (C, 2015 4th rd)
1st line center for Russia at the World Juniors this year? Yes, please.

11- Mark Friedman (RHD, 2014 3rd round)

12- Nicolas Aube-Kubel (LW, 2014 2nd round)

13- Radel Fazleev (C, 2014 6th round)
It was a true joy watching him work from bottom of the roster to big time minutes during the World Juniors last year.

14- Linus Hogberg (LHD, 2016 5th rd)
Hextall says he's there sleeper pick and I believe him. Good size and skating, one of the very youngest players in the entire draft, and scored even while playing on a really bad team.

15- David Kase (LW, 2015 5th)
I originally ranked Kase a hair higher, but dropped him because it looks like he might be stuck playing crap minutes again in the top Czech league.

16- Robert Hagg (LHD, 2013 2nd rd)
Kerry Huffman to the rescue? Hagg just hasn't shown much improvement since being drafted. I'm not writing him off. It's a huge red flag, though.

17- Cole Bardreau (C, 2015 College FA)

18- Carsen Twarynski (LW, 2016 3rd rd)

19- Taylor Leier (LW, 2012 4th rd)

17, 18, and 19 is pretty much a toss up for me. They all have there pros and cons.

Twarynski has size, athleticism, tenacity, and the most upside of the 3.

Leier can do everything pretty well. He's just small and I don't know where he ideally fits in the lineup of a true contender.

Bardreau has a lot of attributes you like to see in a smart, pain in the ass, 4th line center.

20- Mark Alt (RHD, aquired via trade from Carolina, 2010 2nd rd)
This last spot could have gone to any number of guys, but I have a soft spot for big, athletic RHD.

*Roman Lyubimov - I chose not to include for consideration because of age, experience level, and my own lack of knowledge.

_______________

Goaltenders:

1- Anthony Stolarz (2012 2nd rd)
A high upside project that showed big strides last season.

2- Carter Hart (2016 2nd rd)
3- Felix Sandstrom (2015 3rd rd)
For two teenagers, Hart & Sandstrom seem polished as ****. Hart just turned 18 last week. :amazed:

4- Matej Tomek (2015 3rd rd)
This kid isn't dead. People are forgetting what a highly regarded prospect he was before the draft.

5- Alex Lyon (2016 College FA)

6- Merrick Madsen (2013, 6th rd)
A pretty killer year from him. An interesting player who is lost in the shuffle of a stacked group of prospects in net.

7- Ivan Fedotov (2015 7th rd)

Provorov-Konecny are No. 1-2 for me.

not counting goalies, and to be honest I'd rather trade any goalie over Hagg or anyone else on this list.

I still have really really high hopes for Morin, too. Top 6 is pretty sick IMO.

2. Konecny
3. Sanheim
4. Myers

You think a 2nd pair defenseman is more valuable than a 1st line winger?

At least he has Sanheim ahead of Konecny, which I feel is rightfully so.

Then again, he didn't number his selections so maybe he was going in no particular order?

Yes, I think a #3 that can play 20-21 minutes a night in all situations is more valuable than a 50-60 point winger playing 17-18 minutes.

That would mean Streit is a more valuable player than Schenn. I don't think many would agree.

Well, that's what opinions are for, no? Also, we're not talking about a washed up 38 year old defenseman that's only a #3 because he plays on a bad defense. How about guys like Shattenkirk or Hjalmarsson? They don't hold as much value as Schenn?

I think both Shattenkirk and Hjalmarsson are both firm #2s

Shattenkirk and Hjalmarsson aren't #3 defenseman by your guidelines or most people's opinions.

The point I was trying to make is if you think Sanheim is the 2nd best prospect in the system. and project him to be a 3rd or 4th defenseman in the NHL, you are either underselling him or overvaluing Konecny. If you do not think so. it probably makes more sense to place Konecny above Sanheim. Second pair defensemen aren't all that hard to find. First Line players are.

OK, then Seabrook and JBo. Even guys like Gardiner, Vatanen, Braun, and Spurgeon for example.

Anyway, my point was that I see Sanheim as a 2nd pairing guy on the Flyers who are likely going to have a logjam on defense. Maybe he could be a low end #2 on another team. I put 1st line winger for Konecny but I don't think he's going to be a top 10 winger or anything like that, it's just that the FLyers aren't exactly stacked with stars in that position. #3 defenseman that can play in all situations are really valuable players.

I expect we'll lose a few guys to graduation heading into next summer. You also have some where they need to show something this year or will lose stock. So some shuffling will result by default. However I got Vorobyov & Bunnaman as my potential big risers this year heading into next summer.

Skaters:

1- Ivan Provorov
Surprise.

2- Travis Sanheim
Surprise.

3- Travis Konecny
Surprise!

4- Phil Myers
I am enamored with his game. Just has the ability to be dominant in all 3 zones, though he's still a bit thin and could work on his strength and conditioning. A lot of people probably view him like Morin, but I don't see it. Closer to Sanheim if anything. Better skater and more fluid than Sam imo, and his pucks skills are at a different level. Howitzer of a shot too, and he loves to shoot often. At times can get overzealous and do too much, but he seems so smart out there that I think it's just some growing pains after being viewed as a nothing 3rd pair shutdown guy. He really is a 3-zone player, and while he needs to prove himself not a 1-hit wonder, his style game is everything top defensemen in the NHL are about. He probably gets compared to Lauzon too b/c he's the higher touted prospect and scores more, but when Myers was on the ice it wasn't close who controlled the flow of the game.

5- German Rubtsov
I'm a sucker for 3-zone, mentally elite players with skill to boot.

6- Samuel Morin
I can't really rate him lower because w/ his size, skating, competitiveness, and underrated hockey IQ, he could be good. But I am a bit lower on him than most.

7- Oskar Lindblom
*See Rubtsov (Plus everything he's done in the SHL, the WJC, the AHL...and this was only his age 19 season!)

8- Pascal Laberge
Oozes skill, but needs to improve his all-around game and shoot more. I also think he needs some work on his first few strides. It's all about the skill with Pascal though, and he showed big strides in the 2nd half in a tough, tough year for him. I was really hoping Hexy would target some oozing skill forwards, and while I wish we aimed for more mid-rounds, players like Laberge are what this team needs. Also, I remember watching the blowout by Team USA at the u18s before the draft, and Pascal was running around late just hitting everything that moved, and I thought, "What a hothead." But he definitely has snarl, and now he's OUR hothead haha. He's definitely a Flyer-type.

9- Wade Allison
Prolific shot numbers and a great shot. Plenty of guys have the latter and not the former -- the former is what makes great snipers. I think his skating is better than advertised too, with room to work of course. What he did the second half of the year+ was amazing. He really could be a PWF with the rare size and skill package. I'm curious what his year will look like on a crappy college team.

10- Mark Friedman
Still was the youngest starter on his team this year and finished 1 point off of 3rd on team in scoring. Raw numbers held back by playing on a poor offensive team. Really smart, aggressive, top notch offensive player. RHD too.

11- Nicolas Aube-Kubel
Needs 2-way work, and it was a bit disappointing he just matched last year's numbers. Skilled though w/ scoring ability.

12- Mikhail Vorobyov
I'll trust the Flyers scouts having him as a 2nd round talent. WJC will be a fun coming out party hopefully.

13- Danick Martel
Size is always the knock. Finished his junior career as a First-Team All-Star just shy of 50 goals. Comes into the AHL and leads the Phantoms in goals and finishes 5th in AHL among rookie scoring leaders, on a very poor Phantoms team too. Hope he has a big year. I know he can get compared to the Weals and Akesons, but he has exactly what they lack(ed): skating ability and/or grit. Very boom/bust though.

14- Cooper Marody
Finishes 6th in USHL p/pg scoring his draft year behind some big names....goes in the 6th round. Has a real solid freshman year, even though he's buried on the 3rd line, especially behind that mega line. He definitely came into college on the scrawny side, got mono this year which messed with him, but he could put up big points with juicier usage. Track record is there.

15- Taylor Leier
Tony the Phantoms beat raves about his game. I'm still unsure of his ceiling, but his skating and 2-way should play nicely. Very good sophomore year too leading a **** Phantoms team.

16- Radel Fazleev
Just a smart, savvy player. Hakstol would call him "reliable."

17- Linus Hogberg
The potential is there for a huge late round home run. The fact that he came out of nowhere for a 5th round pick and Hexy seemed happy to say he's their "sleeper" gives me confidence. Super young for his year (it was almost his D-1 year!), yet he produced stellar numbers on one of the worst SuperElit teams in the league. Will be interesting to see him if he makes his SHL team.

18- Robert Hagg
His game just bothers me, even though he's got the tools. Passivity on the backend is just a huge concern in today's NHL. But with Hagg, there's always that hope it can click...

19- David Kase
Ready to jump up at any time, but Jesus, he feels like a total mystery outside the WJCs, where his skills and pit bull tendencies made themselves apparent. His development has been a flat out mess for a player of his physical immaturity and great skills, and he'd be way more touted right now if he'd have just come over to play in the OHL. God damn it, David. You couldn't stop eating mama's cooking?

20- Cole Bardreau
Surprisingly good year in the AHL, but he's also 23 and a physical specimen. I still really like him as a TRUE 4th line player with some skills to boot, but his ceiling doesn't impress me enough to rate him higher.

[I'm not including Lyubimov either b/c I don't think he's a prospect]

_______________

Goaltenders:

1- Anthony Stolarz
Most raw talented? Probably not. But with his overall package and just being named an AHL All-Star, seems unfair to place him anywhere but #1 for now.

2- Felix Sandstrom
Future Head & Shoulders Swedish spokesperson

3- Carter Hart
Future network personality

4- Alex Lyon
Augustus is really your middle name?

5- Matej Tomek
Not even good enough to be UND's club hockey goalie!

6- Merrick Madsen
Mortal enemy of Jimmy Vesey

7- Ivan Fedotov
Colossus

Not saying he'll make the NHL for sure but Martel is more similar to a guy like Sheary than he is to Cousins, Weal, Akeson, etc. He's got some good wheels & goal scoring ability to go along with his grit. So he's got a chance here. As far as forwards go he's in that group with Leier, Bardreau, Goulbourne, etc. who have a lot riding on this upcoming year down there.
