If the Russian Lidstrom is only the 10th(or worse) best Coyote prospect, I'm feeling pretty good!

Holy Recency Bias Batman. Picks that were called a bit of a reach by various publications going ahead of prospects with similar draft pedigree who have actually developed and are close to being full time NHL players.

Notice mostly Europeans left on the list. Also reflects that I haven't got a clue about the Europeans except our scouting staff likes them. So I voted the prospect that I know the least, just because I got the song "Camptown races" on my mine.

Koly's ceiling is not anywhere near Duda's at this point in time.

They picked him over Lutz, so I assume they know what they are buying so to speak.

Koly is a year away from a regular shift in the show.

I get the offensive ceiling but this is complete recency bias. In a year i am more than open to redoing the list but to just anoint a recent draft pick as a top 10 prospect simply because we drafted him is a little early for me. I have no problem with Geekie being high. I legitimately had him in my Top 11. Some of this ranking needs to be on actual accomplishments though. IMO.

(heh. where I'm from that surname is synonymous with an enormous ranch - in Florida - through which I would drive every day between Orlando and the Space Center - Duda Ranch - Wikipedia .... today I learned the Duda for whom that ranch is named emigrated from Slovakia (of course!) )

You can't really fault a prospect for an opportunity they never had, which is why Lamoureaux is ahead of Koly despite being three years younger. The upside is just higher, even though there's a nonzero chance Lamoureaux never makes it or never makes it out of a bottom pair specialist role.

Remember the old HF ranking system of a raw number+a letter that indicated the likeliness of reaching their potential? It's like that. GMs are also not looking for replacement level players in trade. They want as much raw upside as possible.

So while there's a good chance Koly will be a solid roster player for years ala Schlemko, teams are not likely to ever dream of trading for him at his current level. Just the same, Duda can end up in a bad developmental spot or simply fail at the next level of competition, potentially ruining his trajectory. Put another way; Duda has a greater chance of being a bluechip but has less track record, so the risk (variance) is higher.

I really would have liked to see more than 3 points in 32 games out of a guy who skates like Koly TBH.

Great post although I'm going Koly. I mentioned it previously but I am weighting my selections with a dash of floor and a dash of ceiling. Koly is only 21 and younger than Moser by several months. We don't know if he was asked to play a very conservative game due to the fact our blueline was made up of four AHL level players for chunks of his stint with the team. I'm hoping he is baked in Tucson and asked to make up some of the offense we lost in Cappo. I'd like the see him regain his confidence on both sides of the ice because I think he still has a cond pair upside. We do know he can be an energy defender on bottom pair, who can be a pain in the ass to play against.

I've come around to Duda quite a bit. Outside of Chesley I think most of the defenders in the 2nd round have the same upside of Koly. Duda had a season that proves he has a chance to be a very valuable defenseman. The obstacles that are in the way of his development worry me. Hoping he can somehow get to NA.

I was thoroughly unimpressed by Kolyachonok in his games last season. Is that fair? Maybe not the team stunk. But it's pretty rare someone has come up and looked borderline completely useless to me and gone on to great/good things later.

Toolsy but I didn't see NHL offensive upside or particularly good hockey sense.

I thought Koly looked really good at times. Smooth skating and had a good first outlet pass
