With all the new talk of an expansion team in ether Seattle or Las Vegas, I was wondering who we would protect and not protect. Seems as if the draft wouldn't take place until next year anyway. So for argument sake, lets say the draft is this year. Under last rules I saw, we can protect 1 goalie, 5 d, and 7 f. 1 and 2 year players are protected (Foresberg, Jarnkrok, Jones and Beck)
I would protect:
G- Rinne
D- Weber, Josi, Ellis, Ekholm, and Franson
F- Neal, Fish, Ribs, Wilson, Smith, Santo, Gaustad
This would essentially leave Cullen, Nystrom, Bartley, Volch, Hutton and Bourque available to take. I would keep Franson, Santo, Fish, and Ribs protected to give us first chance to sign them before FA starts. I think that extra time is worth possibly giving up Bourque, Bartley, Cullen and Nystrom.
They get one pick- id assume it would be Bourque.
