They said that the Caps want to win this game and put the Jackets on the brink of elimination.

But don't the blue jackets want to win to put the Caps on the brink of elimination? I don't understand it either way.

They were showing Caps fans walking in the arena, so I doubt the Caps fans were wanting Jackets to win to put Caps on brink of elimination. But maybe they could have said that the Caps fans were hoping the Caps win so they avoid being put on the brink of elimination?
