So, looking at all the signings we have. There is actually a few different ways Detroit could Ice a roster this year.

But lets say Yzerman tries to keep as many of our prospects AWAY from the NHL club this year as possible.
Isolates them from losing. Allows them to dominate lower leagues.

This COULD be a lineup we ice:

Bert-Larks-Mantha
Fabbri-Namestnikov-Ryan
Gagner-Filppula-Helm
Erne-Glendening-Timashov
(Nielsen extra, demoted?)
Svechnikov (Hopefully he moves up from extra forward)
Brome (does he come over?)

Staal-Stecher
Dekeyser-Biega
Nemeth-Merrill

We could leave every prospect including Zadina and Hronek overseas if we wanted.
We now have enough vets to ice a team without them.

Do you think we ice a very vet laden team with most prospects staying in europe
How many of those prospects are locked into those leagues?

I think everyone but Hronek and Zadina stays overseas if for no other reason than Europe is handling Covid better than in NA, so those kids have a much higher likelihood of playing full seasons where they are now.

That is a godawful team.

And I wouldn't be terribly surprised if it happens.

If that's Yzerman's plan, I'm not sure if it matters if players are locked in overseas, just that they have spots now. Just don't ask them to be released, and I doubt the euro clubs push the matter, likely preferring to keep our guys as long as possible.

Part of math for this has to be the likelihood the NHL just doesn't have a season for 20/21. Guys come in to an abbreviated camp, a likely compressed schedule, greater stress because of covid/travel/importance of points in early games/etc., it's a recipe for injuries. Let Ryan get his knee blown out by some overeager third liner rather than it be Rasmussen carted off the ice.

Zadina should 100% no question be getting top 6 minutes in Detroit this year. Playing against inferior competition long term will only hurt him in my eyes. I’d prefer something like this

Mantha-Larkin-Zadina ( an actual average first line)
Bertuzzi-Fabbri-Ryan (play Ryan there to start to see if he can have a comeback season and boost his trade value)
Gagner-Filppula-Namestikov (below average 3rd line but at least has NHL quality players)
Helm-Glendenning-Svech

Timashov and Erne extra forward on roster.
Smith goes to Europe and Brome stays in Sweden with the intent of coming after TDL.

Nielsen banish to whatever loophole they can find, even if no cap relief

I'd be surprised if Zadina and Hronek don't come back but I could see all the prospects staying over there for the season. Especially if we are looking at possibly a Jan start and a condensed season.

Let the kids have some routine and let the vets deal with a crazy condensed schedule if there is even a season.

Could be just preparing for all scenarios.

European leagues could end at same time (May?) as NHL trade deadline happens.

Kids to Europe, play vets January-May, sell vets in May. Bring some kids back in June to play for 15 NHL games.

Plan B if there is no AHL.

Zadina and Hronek should be in NHL at any case.

No way Hronek isn't playing... unless the whole season gets cancelled.

Zadina might stay in Europe, but I think that would set back his development. That would be a very unpleasant surprise.
