I know a lot of people don't like these, but it's July, IMO the most boring sports month of the year... so here's some comparisons I've made of our prospects/younger players to current players in the league.

Grigorenko= Kopitar
Hodgson= Stastny
Girgensons= O'Reilly
Larsson= Hecht
Foligno= Brouwer
Armia= Eriksson

Ristolainen- Seabrook
Zadorov- Kronwall?
Pysyk- Hamhuis/Keith?
McNabb- Coburn
McCabe- Gunnarson

-Some of these guys may exceed these expectations, some may not reach them, but I just think it's fun to project them at the next level.

Thoughts?

I think we should do I High and Medium (Low being unworthy of comparison/low level player/bust). High being maxed out potential. Medium being acceptable/likely...

This is meant to be fun... not nitpicked to death ;)

Hodgson

Girgensons

Med = Brandon Dubinsky/Mike Fisher

Larsson

Grigorenko= TBH, Malkin at best but reasonably his a good Staal level player
Hodgson= Briere?
Girgensons= Drury
Larsson= Hecht (better ability though)
Foligno= Ott/Downie

Ristolainen- Pronger, little less brutal
Zadorov- Chara's style, not sure his got the same ceiling though. Chara is an amazing player.
Pysyk- Hmm, Tallinder/Lydman/Teppo?

Nice Jame, I think yours are much better than mine were, and that's the fun in it. And yes, a high/low, or high/medium is a good idea.

To me I see a lot of Kopitar in Girgorenko, nit just bc they're both east Europeans, but because of the fact that he can score and make plays equally well. Whereas a guy like Thorton is much more of a distributor.

Grigorenko - Spezza
Girgensons - Dustin Brown / Ryan Callahan
Larsson - Mike Richards
Armia - Not to sure. Maybe Lupul like others have said.

Jame's are really good. My only critique is making Pysyk's high = Hamonic. Hamonic is only 22, so we don't really even know what his ceiling is. Pysyk could easily turn out to be better. Who knows?

This is damn near perfect. Question- is Bryan Little really that good defensively?

Grigorenko reminds me a lot of Joe Thornton. If he can work on his skating and develop better speed than potentially Evgeni Malkin. The hands, poise and vision are very similar. For some reason I see him shaping out to be an Anze Kopitar, which I would be quite happy with.

Joel Armia is very similar to that of Jason Spezza and or Corey Perry.

Girgensons will NEVER be a Ryan Kesler...not a chance for whom ever suggested that. Ryan Kesler has a very high skill set. Girgensons is strictly a defensive type player. This guy is THE over rated prospect on this team. Drafted way too high IMO. Potenital = Jeff Halpern

Marcus Foligno reminds me a lot of David Clarkson. Extremely similar attributes and qualities.

I also see a very bright future with Hodgson, Pysyk, and Ristolainen.

Grigs won't be anything like Kopitar. He doesn't have the defensive skills for Kopitar's two way game.

Why no love for Girgs?

My squabble with this is that I think Sami Pahlsson aka "The guy who shoulda won the Conn Smythe" I'd say is a high end comparable, mostly because I absolutely loved Pahlsson's game. I think a lower end comparable would be more Marcel Goc. But that's nitpicking...

And I like McCabe's potential a bit more.

I don't think Grigorenko will EVER be near the level that Kopitar is defensively. I doubt we'll see Grigo killing penalties in the NHL. The offensive side, I can see the similarities. Defensively....not close. Spezza might be a better comparable, and I like the Thornton comparable, but I think Grigo has a better shot.

IMO, Spezza isn't a real good comparable to Armia. I think Spezza's a bit faster and is more the playmaker than Joel. Joel's best attribute right now is his shot. I don't think he'll ever be as physical as Perry.

Girgensons is NOT in any way shape or form a strictly defense-first guy like Halpern. While I think his offensive abilities might be starting to get a bit overrated around these parts, he's certainly going to put in 30/40/50 points a year.

On the surface, the Clarkson/Foligno comparisons seem OK. They play a similar style game (physical, disturber) in a few aspects. However, Clarkson is a much, much more willing fighter than Foligno is or ever will be. Foligno's also a much better defensive player than Clarkson is, while I think Clarkson is better offensively than Foligno.

I think Jame's overriding point with the Pahlsson comparison is the total lack of offense that Pahlsson provides.

To me, a better high comparable for Larsson would be Stoll (which I think is Girgenson's floor, incidentally).

I have it confirmed that Joel Armia is going to be an even bigger ******* than Corey Perry. Scientists are baffled as to how this can be possible.

Bolded is ridiculous. I have a feeling you've never watched him play.

Grigorenko - High End: vintage Brad Richards. Offense first, low physicality, mediocre defense. PP Spark plug.
Med-Low End: Ales Hemsky

Armia - High End: Rick Nash. If he develops an edge in his game and brings some physicality like he should be able to, he could produce a Nah-esque play style. He already has the hands, shot, and vision. Vanek is also a good comparison IMO.
Med-Low End: Ales Kotalik, easy pick

Girgensons - High End: Mike Richards. Has the tools, we shall see if he can put them all to good use.
Med-Low End: Dave Bolland

Ennis - High End: Danny Briere. Similar playmaking and shooting abilities with good speed. Both can get chippy at times.
Med-Low End: Max Afinogenov. Both can dangle and wheel, but I see Ennis as a better off-the-puck player, so I'm leaning towards high end.

Foligno - High End: Scott Hartnell. Bruisers that can put up points.
Low End- Cal Clutterbuck

Hodgson - High-End: Thomas Plekanec. Good two-way 1b/2a center. I see no reason for Hodgson not to improve his defensive game.
Low End: Derek Roy. I know that 80-pts for Hodgson would be terrific, but outside of that one season for Derek, he was a good offensive #2C, which I think Hodgson already is.

Ristolainen - High End: Alexei Zhitnik.
Low End: Francois Beauchemin.

Zadorov - High End: Andrei Markov/Brent Seabrook.
Low End: Brooks Orpik.

Pysyk - High End: Teppo Numminen.
Low End: Hank Tallinder.
