Nicklas Lidstrom wins the 2000s poll, mostly on the strength of his consistency and being the league's best defenseman for the entire decade. He won over Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby, where playing half the decade cost them votes.

Previous winners

1920s: Howie Morenz (68.5%)
1930s: Eddie Shore (68.8%)
1940s: Maurice Richard (94.6%)
1950s: Gordie Howe (100%)
1960s: Bobby Hull (58.2%)
1970s: Bobby Orr (81.2%)
1980s: Wayne Gretzky (95.4)
1990s: Mario Lemieux (59.0%)
2000s: Nicklas Lidstrom (53.2%)

Crosby, 2nd in regular season points during the decade (35 points behind Kane in 116 fewer games), 1st in playoff points, 2 Cups and 2 Conn Smythe's.

Only one Hart and Art Ross due to injuries but he was definitely the best player of the decade as demonstrated by the raw numbers.

McDavid doesn’t get votes here for the same reason Crosby and Ovechkin shouldn’t have in the last decade.

You’d have to be light years ahead of the rest of the field to be better only having played five years. I do think McDavid’s peak is better than Crosby or Ovechkin’s, but it damn sure ain’t that far ahead.

Crosby definitely.
Patrick Kane has more cups, more points, more goals, and ridiculous performance even lately on a piss poor Blackhawks team, but it's "Crosby definitely"?

Well, if we're starting with the 2010-2011 season I guess they're even in cups, though. And that would remove Kane's best playoff performance from 2010 spring. But then Kane also had 2 seasons where he scored more points than Crosby's highest, which would imply that he had a higher peak than Crosby. Essentially it comes down to Blackhawks having been a mediocre team for quite some years with Kane consistently by far the best player on the team while Penguins were a contender throughout,

Crosby's other Conn Smythe over Phil Kessel was a farce, though. Those are voting trophies - objectively meaningless.

It would almost make more sense to discuss whether Patrick Kane or someone else was the standout Blackhawks player of that time period, Crosby he's not even close to challenging.

Kane or crosby, but Crosby plays the more important position, is a captain and his international record is impeccable. Crosby then Kane.

Yes!

Crosby is a great leader and plays an elite defensive game while Kane is mostly about offense.
Great player no question, but not as good as Crosby.

Yeah McDavid shouldn't even be an option imo. In terms of purely points he's 43rd for the decade. Add in defensemen and goalies and it'd be pretty easy to put at LEAST 25 players ahead of him.

He might be the top for 5 of those years, but he's also the worst option for the other 5. What you want is someone who is high for the whole decade.

Those are all awards given for a specific amount of time. They aren't a good measure of a different amount of time. Sam Gagner has the most points of anyone in a single game. Would you use that as a good measurement into who's the best player of the decade?

Art Ross is a measurement of a specific amount of time. As already stated, McDavid finished 43rd for the Art Ross of the decade. Hart is who is the most valuable. Was McDavid one of the most valuable players from 2010-2015?

Crosby comfortably. Karlsson would be an easy number 2 for me if he had been healthier.

2020s would have to be Kucherov as of now, back-to-back cups scoring 66 points.

Even if you are suing 19-20 as the starting point it's easily McDavid right now then a battle for 2nd place and Kuch probably isn't the guy in second either.

Heck Hedman will probably be a 3 time finalist for the Norris and has a Conn Smythe as well.

Only two regular seasons and one playoffs (or three and two, depending how you count) into the decade?

Way too soon.

Well, I know which year we are in lol

But asking people who they project to be the best in the 20's. Do people see any active player give him a fierce competition?

Bedard will start playing in 2023-24, he'll be elite but no guarantee he'll be as good as McDavid
