*raise of the hand* 13-season STH here with basically Forslund's view of the arena.

Definitely more than 15K in the building last night. No way the reported 11,225 was correct. 16,225 sounds more like it.

Likewise, based on our view from 333, 16k is closer to the mark than 11k. And I'd also estimate the crowd at around 50/50 between Pens fans and Canes fans, though, like always, I do wonder how many of those wearing Pens jerseys last night, like me, wear Canes jerseys the other nights out of the season (and similarly how many people in Canes jerseys would be wearing Sabres, Bruins, Flyers, etc. when those respective clubs are in town).

Maybe it wasn't so bad?

@jbk_ltd No idea how that happened. Attendance was 16,225. The NHL scorers got it wrong on the sheet.

Should be easy to confirm for whoever was there. A 5k difference is pretty easily noticeable.
Yep... no CHANCE that would've been correct. It's because of the freaking Pittsburgh fans, but still.

The only things I really noticed about either game that I'm taking with me is that:

A) Jordan belongs with this team IMO.

B) I love that our pp unit featuring none of our stars is one if the best pp's I've ever seen this team have. They move off each other and have actual chemistry.

I'm wondering if Jordan is one of those "holy **** guys here can actually develop?" types, or if it's just that relative to Harrison, he looks like a top pairing D. I like the guys personally, but JML and Harrison should never touch the ice again for us. For being a PMD, Liles doesn't exactly add much/any offense. Harrison's role should be to tutor anyone interested in taking some college courses, not playing hockey.

That PP unit has two Swedes with talent on it, and two other guys who go balls out every time they are on the ice. That's a winning combo right there.

It's also probably time to slap an "A" on Gerbe. If there was ever a hockey player you wanted to have your young players follow by example, that's your guy.

re: Jordan. For all the **** we give our AHL team's ability to develop players on this board, maybe it's just that developing players takes a lot longer than we all want to believe? (or we've been spoiled by guys like Skinner). Also, the "win now" attitude in previous regime's hasn't provided ample opportunity for such players to break into the NHL line-up and allow them to make mistakes.

Dwyer (Albany), Nash, Rask, Bellemore, Boychuk, Terry and Jordan have all spent significant time with the Canes AHL affiliate developing and now are beginning to contribute on some level. Even Tlusty (25 games) and Faulk (56 games) spent more than a few games in the AHL fine tuning their games. Granted, none of them are superstars, but many of them are showing they are at least serviceable NHLrs.

I'm confident that a guy like Murphy can't do any worse than Harrison in the NHL right now, but maybe it's best that he stays in the AHL and works on his game for a year or two.

An interesting stat, is that the Canes are 12th in GF% since 07 when up 1, and 16th when down 1, and 25th when tied.

They're good with the lead, okay when behind, and among the worst when tied.

This year, they're, 12th up 1, 16th down 1, and 30th when tied.

So they are terrible when it counts the most? Sounds about right.

Fine to write off. But I'm curious as to why? Why are they bottom 5 when the score is tied, but average when down 1, and good when up 1?

Is it that the playing style is different in the other two situations? Team has a hard time starting quickly? What's really causing it?

By any chance can you look at it by period? If the poor performance when tied is dominated by the first period, it might answer how much of it to attribute to slow starts.

Just based on my own recollection, this is probably it. Last year specifically they never scored first.
