For you young bucks out there, I think this is what Luca is talking about:
Skates with moulded plastic boots haven't been used for 15 years, I'd say. The last pair of molded skates I had was over 20 years ago. There were a couple of NHLers who wore moulded skates, but we're talking about a tiny minority, and players who weren't exactly superstars.
I'd have to say that those skates are extinct in most major hockey-playing nations.

The ones that everyone used to wear were called Microns

I never wore them, but a few guys I knew had them. They were usually worn by skaters with weak ankles.
