he'll play with great players. Will outscore lemieux cuz mario will play only 50 games
my pitts guess:
Name gp goals assists points
Sidney Crosby 75 36 53 89
Mario Lemieux 50 20 55 75
Mark recchi 79 35 40 75
Sergei gonchar 80 21 40 61
ryan malone 82 30 26 56
evgeni malkin(?) 65 15 40 55

that based on higher scoring

Even with a bunch of ice time, I think as a realist, Crosby will get around 65 points MAX.

I'd like to wonder if anyone said that about Gretzky in 1979. He was just a skinny kid but that year he ended up winning the hart Trophy and tied Dionne with 137 points. 65 is the minimum Crosby will get. I'd personally be shockd if he wasnt at least around a point per game. My preiction is about 80-90 points. He really is that special IMO

Buccigross is still standing by his prediction of 101 points. Assuming they "really mean it this time" that they'll call all of the obstruction, that means a lot of power play opportunities. The Pens are looking pretty good on the PP. Crosby, Lemieux, Recchi, Gonchar, and probably Tarnstrom as well. He'll get some big points for a rook. I don't think 100 points is out of the question.

With the new shootout overtime, the rule is that no matter how many goals are scored, at the end of the game the team who wins will have one more goal than their opponent. Does that goal get attributed to the guy who scored it or does it just go away?

And what do you predict?

If Mario plays 70 games, Crosby 70 pts TOPS. But that's not so much a reflection of SC is it?

I think he's a legit perennial All-Star candidate but vastly overrated as the "Next Gretzky".

I don't expect a 17/18 yr old to be a dominant 1st line center.

In fact, if Malkin comes over I predict he outscores Crosby.

Gretzky played against far inferior players in a different era and was ahead of his time. Even with the rule changes, you're going to be hard-pressed to find a skill-gap that wide ever again in the NHL, IMO.

Uh, you tell me. Do you foresee him just feeding off of Lemieux?

It's partly a skill gap with Crosby but it's also a mental gap that makes him a cut above the rest isn't it?

EVERY single bounce or opporunity just goes Crosby's way. Its uncanny. If you havent seen him play, its verging on unbelievable . He is so strong on the puck at 17 years old, that I think out of the shoot hes verging on a point a game player.
I think 25g45a -70Pts not unrealistic at all, and depending on how much Mario plays, more is certainly not out of reach...

How do you figure?
Most of the comparisons to Gretzky are regarding his uncanny ability to anticipate puck movement and player positioning. That's what makes skilled players great.

That's true. Malkin is no slouch either. We'll see in a couple months.

Its hilarious to read that people think Crosby will score 80+ points as an 18 year old...
No, what I find really funny is guys that were predicting a year ago that
Brule would go 1st in the draft over Crosby, still not getting it. :D
