Go...

Last page of previous thread..

They also do not fit our style of play which is the bigger overarching complaint you and @Ryder71 seem to be missing.

I guess Ryan previously did.

what I think is more accurate to say is that McCann shouldn’t be a bottom six center...he does alright for a time in the top six, but he can’t be relied upon as a center in the bottom six for this team, which take more defensive assignments...that really limits his strengths imo...he can be a winger or a top six center for a period of time

This has to be the most anyone has ever talked about Glendening in his life.

Even I have two posts about him now.. what the f*** is wrong with me.

There has been multiple Steve Dangle podcasts about him.

Like, I know Glendening has subpar possession numbers, but how much of that is because of how atrocious the Red Wings are? And how much is due to him starting two-thirds or more of his shifts in the defensive zone? Put him on the Penguins with a different structure and more support, and suddenly those possession numbers might look different.

I love a good @Ryder71 and @Gurglesons exchange of insults battle.

giphy.gif

That's why nuance and context here is important. He's playing on a bad team. So logically one would assume his other numbers might suffer as a result. Taking a faceoff is a one on one exercise. If once you win the draw you have a linemate that turns it over or makes a bad read that could reflect poorly on you (even though you won the draw).

That would explain why I’ve never seen or heard anyone talk about him.

He's not even trying at this point. He just makes things up and once he's found to be wrong, he moves the goal posts or changes the subject. Very deceptive. Would likely make a good Lawyer (sorry @Andy99).

We're approaching the TDL. So his name has been brought up quite a bit. They talked him up today on NBC in their game.

Saying they don't matter at all is a bit out there for me.

But I will say that in general, the correlation between winning them and winning games is so marginal, if there at all, that they don't really matter.

And that where they do matter are those handful of specific situations, like Empty Net, where ten-twenty seconds of possession can really change a game, and that working out who's actually good at those situations is difficult because of small samples - and then working out whose ability there actually justifies being on the ice ahead of a player who's generally better is even harder.

Plot twist.........they live together

Just, no!

You mother f***ers need to fire up some indica and put How It's Made on for a few hours.

Am I missing something or wasn't Sullivan already giving Gaudreau more minutes than Jankowski?

Why do we need someone else to also replace Jankowski?

This roster pretty clearly needs one piece, max, so let's maybe aim a bit higher than the Glendenings and Sheahans. They aren't making the difference in a playoff series over Gaudreau

If you want a cheap and easy target, get Bennett for like a 4th + meh prospect or someone like Sceviour. If you want to really take a run at this thing, see if you can land Hall for a price that makes sense (I don't think you can) and hope like Hell he's motivated to prove everyone wrong (I'm not sure he is).

Other than that, who even gives a shit?

Or a very lousy attorney...

@Andy99 did you go to law school in Pittsburgh?

I love pushing the buttons for people on here but arguing about a 4C seems excessive even for my standards

I'll have no strong feelings on if they add Glendening.

Have said before that I'm not sure that Bennett would work out here

But I am confident that he would make the playoffs more fun to watch, and it's all for entertainment so I am firmly pro-Bennett

There's a chance he could bring a Kunitz-lite style to a Geno-Kap line that would be great--if it works out, big if. If not, he's a bottom-6 guy who brings some physicality and doesn't seem to wilt in the playoffs. If he fails in that regard, you scratch him and forget he exists.

A line with Bennett and Tanev running around punishing people on the forecheck would be fun to watch.

Jake-Sid-Rust
Zucker/Bennett-Geno-Kap
Zucker/Bennett-McCann-Tanev
ZAR-TB-E-Rod/Angello/Gaudreau/Whatever

Ain't bad. Got options too. Lots of those guys can plop around to different spots.

This but:
Jake-Sid-Rust
Zucker/Bennett-Geno-Kap
Zucker/Bennett-McCann-Gaudreau
BART

And let Gaudreau take the defensive draws that people around here think McCann can't handle, problem solved

The thing I like about Bennett is you can potentially plug and play him into whatever situation he's needed until he finds a home on a line. I know he's not the only guy with that sort of potential, but it's a big draw.

If we were making a trade with a Canadian team I imagine it’d be done by now, right?

Everyone’s in the same boat. I’m sure at least a few teams would be interested in Bennett and the Flames are in no rush to move him.

From our side of things, who cares if you have to wait a couple weeks. We’ve been missing players all year lol.

I think it’s more about adding a player to a new system and only giving him like two weeks to adjust prior to the playoffs.

What I don’t really like about him is that no matter which role he has been plugged into on Calgary - at least in the regular season which provides the more meaningful sample size - he has been pretty ineffective for years.

A Glendening conversely is just about the same player Gaudreau is. Just with a better track record and much better at faceoffs.

Upside is obviously much higher with Bennett if he finally puts it together playing with good linemates, but risk is also higher that you will get what Calgary has been getting. Ie. a player who contributes more to losing than winning.

Then there’s a guy like Zajac, who unquestionably is a better hockey player and would make us the deepest team in the league down the middle again.
Not much truculence there, but hard to play. Even for Sid, Bergeron, Backstrom etc.

I think this is the most consequential move we can realistically make. At least at F.

One thing about Bennett is, for whatever reason, he seems to turn it up in the playoffs. That's one of the reasons I'd be intrigued by adding him. I don't give a shit what any acquisitions do for us in the regular season as I think we'll make it regardless, it's what they add come playoff time that concerns me. Bennett seems to have another level in the post season.

I worry about specifically slowing this team down like we did with Marleau when it comes to Zajac. Then again he worked with Coleman.

With Zajac I could envision..

Guentzel, Crosby, Rust
McCann, Malkin, Kapanen
Zucker, Zajac, Tanev
Zar, Blueger, E-Rod/Angello/Gaudreau

I really don't think McCann-Kap is going to be a good combo. They're going to want to do the same thing and Geno's going to be left doing the grunt work. Zucker not having to be the production guy gives him the chance to be the two-way guy with a motor that he excels at. Bennett could give that line a Kunitz-lite aspect. I think McCann is just a straight ahead guy with a great shot. Sort of a worse version of Kap, tbh. At least Kap has a better two-way game imo, and has shown surprising vision/creativity.

Agreed. I think it lobotomizes what works on L2 and L3 and if we are moving McCann to wing I’d rather do it with Gaudreau or Blueger and bump Tanev to L2.

I'm not splitting up Teddy and Tanev. Let's not overthink it here. But if by chance we got Zajac, that would definitely move us up a bit. Now that would be quality depth to be sure.

Why I think it makes no sense to make one for a rental- its too short a time. The player coming back I would think or expect them to keep into next year. I also think maybe it's why it's taking long is that they are looking for longer term player that fits
