The Pens don't do it, and if we do it, we have to make another move to shed salary. Or 2 other moves.

Not to mention that the Pens could probably receive 28 better offers than that.

Saw Malkin, skimmed the pieces we're giving up, checking for Galchenyuk, Price, Pacioretty or Subban. Don't see one, so yes, quite easily. That's just a combination of good quantity for arguably the 2nd best player in the league. Though most of the pieces we're giving up are valuable in a vacuum, they aren't valuable relative to Malkin.

I see it as:

Scherbak + Gallagher + 1st for Malkin, which is such an easy yes it's not even funny. Tokarski >= Greiss, and DD ~ Dupuis.


Pacioretty - Malkin - PAP
Galchenyuk - Plekanec - Sekac
Bourque - Eller - Bournival

No way does Pittsburgh trade Malkin without one of Price Subban Pacioretty or Galchenyuk going back.

Any talk ends the minute you don't include those guys.

Not based on the current Pens' line-up. Their defense, despite popular belief, is quite stacked. One of the best of the conference. They have a lot more of a need up front, if anything.

Are we talking about the Pittsburgh Penguins 28 yr.old center that has played 860 professional hockey games and is in the peak year of his career. Now if it cost the Habs what was proposed initially, I'm in. If it would take the future of the Habs in Subban & Galchenyuk, well let's just say I feel like heaving at the thought. Not only wouldn't that bring us the SC but it would ruin any chance of a SC for yrs. to come. Just sayin.

There's no realistic way to come for a trade that would benefit both teams when it involves a player of Malkin's talent.

We have more than enough assets to trade for him, but it would make us a much weaker team overall.
