So the Habs save 1.375m in capspace for the next 3 years by moving Petry but take on an additional cap hit of 4.875m for year 4 plus they added Poehling and recieved a 4th round pick.

IMO the first brutal move for Hughes and I don't see how this made sense for the Habs TBH.

So I guess he becomes the veteran presence to help the kid while saving 1.5 and unfortunately had no choice but to trade Petry.

There was no reason to move Petry unless they were at least getting complete cap relief. This does NOTHING.

Wasn’t expecting much, no big deal. We are tanking clearly. If Petry was worth a first round pick, we would have it now. Those thinking we could send him at the trade deadline for good value forget that we would have to retain salary to make it work, which is a bad idea.

A bad 4 year contract is dipping into the time frame we shouldn’t be tanking anymore.

They did which explains why it took so long to make the deal. Petry clearly wanted out and made it clear to management based on this return

People always over react. I see two positive.
1) either he truly sucks and the habs will have a top pick next year
Or
2) he is very good and the habs a good player at a reasonable cap hit for the next 4 years.
