Great contract, and a total surprise to me. Thought for certain that he was going to be asking for too much, would turn down the tendering offer, and sign elsewhere in the off-season elsewhere in the range of 4 years/$60 million given the market for catchers.

Elias Diaz, the heir apparent at the position as the bridge to Reese McGuire, is set to have elbow surgery and is likely out for the season, so this eases that potential headache of handing the job over to a rookie who missed an entire season with a rather serious injury.

Let's just ignore that 2.6 WAR with just 404 PAs last year and focus on this year where he...sustained too many concussions to continue playing the position that gave him value...yeah...how dare he?

I hope for his sake that he switches positions. Sure, he'd probably be a negative WAR player, but he's had so many concussions recently.
