In the Panderverse
It’s so flat there. I’d go crazy with no hills or mountains around.
I think it's still considered to be part of the Niagara escarpment. When the glaciers which covered Canada in the last ice age retreated and formed the great lakes, that land was "uncovered" in a generally broad flat basin, with Lake Ontario due north of that area. The elevation on that plain is ~500-600' (175-200m) above sea level. Hills rise as you head an hour south, reaching 1500' / 500m, another 1.5 hours south and the peaks are typically 2000-2100' with valleys 1600-1700'. Nothing like New Zealand (from what photos I've seen), but still quite scenic. The photos @Buffaloed posted are protected migratory waterfowl areas. Used to go there in Scouts back in the day.

I took these in July at Gratwick Park in North Tonawanda. My car was stuffed to the gills with things I was moving but when I saw all the kites I decided to stop and take a break.

Nice! I'm definitely planning on bringing my kite stuff next time I visit my parents in Buffalo.
I'm visiting my family in Buffalo now. Here are some pictures I took with my kite of the downtown Buffalo, the waterfront, and the Pendleton water tower.
