The author manages to get several things wrong, calls Fortress "Frontier" etc but essentially an opinion piece as much as a ScoreCard. Whoever wrote ending with the now familiar and oblique "2 weeks" meme. Overall nothing new, rather weak tea. Disappointing someone in the media down there just doesnt go for the throat. Call the league out properly. Facts just staring them in the face and not at all difficult to let them have it with both barrels.

You know, 40 years ago this time of year, they were going through the Watergate scandal, maybe there's some stuff on reel to reel tapes that Bettman will erase when all this is over, give us an even better scandal. But yea, media are running out of idea/opinions here-alls said that can be said (and yet look at our thread count:laugh:)

That one hell of a black eye for a league that like to pretend that they are a big time pro-sports!

Ya. As Ive said previously, Im thinking the BOG's are going to have a real problem with this deal IF (big big 'if') its ever put before them for a vote. Essentially selling the team to the sharp clawed Fortress, lending these neophytes $80M, guaranteeing them Max Revenue Sharing & Development Fund support, they with like 33% cash equity up-front and at that broken down into units of between $3-$5M a piece with Gosbee the biggest hitter at a reported $10M? Are you Freakin kiddin me?

This is pretty much my biggest concern for Yotes fans-that RSE buys the team and totally skimps out on keeping the team competitive, using the team as a
resell option for another buyer and not caring about the fans or the team.

With the big front office signings, I doubt RSE will have the money to get much beyond the bottom of the Salary cap. Tippett has done a good job with a low payroll but with a free agent disaster due to the length of this "situation" he'll be hard pressed to get them back to the playoffs.

What bothers me is if this purchase plan was put forth in any other city it would be rejected immediately.:shakehead
If True North had structured a purchase even remotely like this they would have been laughed at.

On the other hand if at the same time you present a relocation that would make the league whole and maybe make a little profit for their troubles and the humiliation... Even if the NHL need to waste a prime expansion market to do it...

EDIT: Damn we burned another thread! lolll

As per Dave Zorn on Twitter...

Clint Bolick (Goldwater Institute): if the deal is over 6M$ and "at the end of the day to keep the hockey team, it looks like it will be illegal subsidy. We will be watching very, very carefully."

following up the earlier tweet leak from KFYI 550 in regards to Goldwater, nothing earth shattering.

they wouldnt be the first nhl owners to be more focused on the corporate well-being of the business than performance on the ice.

Forgive me, CF, as I may be reading this too fast as I'm scurrying to a 3PM meeting but... are you saying that the opposition to the Item Agenda (#26) would come in the form of "Citizen Comments" or "airing out grievances" portion because they (council) intend to cram this one through.

No, definitely not talking about citizen comments. Those are meaningless.

I'm talking about Agenda Item 26 potentially being utilized as a sword by council members who oppose the Gosbee lease. More specifically, it could be used by Weiers as I do not view anyone else on the council other than Sherwood to have the skill needed to use the platform.

Item 26 itself is not the operative piece. Item 26 can pass as an emergency clause with full council support. What it does, though, is provide a platform for council discussion of the item. And that platform creates an opportunity for a savvy politician to conduct a scripted undressing of the Coyotes economic impact past, present, and future. The lease-buy-back is already fodder for sensational headlines, coupling it with the RSE lease makes for pretty good grandstanding, I would think.

Of course, most often, these things end with a whimper not a bang. But so long as the potential for confrontation on the issue is there, the Gosbee lease advocates would probably be wise to limit their exposure. The last thing they would seem to want is an open dialog on the true revenue/expenses of the Coyotes and the merits of a RSE lease as part of an already potentially poisonous discussion about how City Hall ended up in hock...

City Hall? Let me call a buddy of mine who knows everything about pawning legislative building to subsidize the NHL.

Posturing imo.

With evidence running the arena IS in the 6 million dollar range, Goldwater certainly would have the ammunition AND if the Arena management bids came in at under or at 6 million, And selling City Hall to pay city finds back for the previous loss payments to the NHL. Good Luck Glendale.

CoG is in a very tight position. My opinion if its less than 6m then i doubt a deal between COG and the group will ever happen.

That'd be brain-dead simple. Wouldn't need two weeks to argue a case like that. Could discuss it over cupcakes.

Since most of this board believes the team is DOA in Glendale, that to me is the clearest indicator that they will stay there forever. It's just the way this saga has run, for as long as I can remember...

Just hope that the owners will look at this part sensibly, the Seattle offer doesn't have 80% of it's money coming, through loans. Why not just say, screw it, this offer from these guys, even if the COG would pay 15 million a year to help a hockey team, is too shaky?
Seattle might need some help to start with, until the arena is made, but not that much help, I'm certain.

Oh no... I'm having a nightmare of a 15 million deal being accepted by the City in the workshop, a ''yes'' vote on the second of July, followed by Goldwater making threaths, Fortress jumping ship and tthe Renaissance financing falling appart at the last second...

Followed of course by one more year of NHL ownership and all of us being right back in the same position in exaclty one year... With a sale still being imminent...

I don't think I can take one more year of this without going nuts (If I'm not already)...

or, after Fortress drops out, CoG hires an arena manager to negotiate with the league. Would be a new twist

Me too another year of this, with another one or two saviours would be too much. Software is available to block porn sites, we may need one for Coyote discussion sites :cry::laugh::cry::laugh::cry:
