Well the Phoenix Coyotes started the season with a blast before going winless int heir next 6 games, followed by a win with the Brind'Amour deal possibly working as a wake up call to the team. before being delt Rod Brind'Amour was a workhorse taking up 25-35 mins per game, and lead the team with 10 points in 7 games, no one benefited more from his presence than Mark Smith, who would have been their next best performer with 4 goals and 1 assist.
"The intention was not to deal Rod untill the trade deadline, we knew we'd get top value for him then, but the right deal came along and felt it would best benefit the team in the end if we moved him." Coyotes GM continues. "Craig Conroy is near Rod's ability and is a similar player with a smaller contract so he will be just as attractive at the trade deadline because of that, also Scott Walker is another guy we could move but has a longer contract and unless a really good deal came along we'd probably hold onto him." "David LeNeveu is a guy we've been watching and i'm sure Montoya has a higher potential ceiling but LeNeveu is more NHL ready and still has ptoential to be a top 10 goaltender at the highest level which made him attractive to the future of this team, acquiring a goaltender of his talent also made it possible for us to send Thibault to Utah due to budget problems, and Thibault will be available cheap ont he market to a team that needs a decent back-up."

- Phoenix sits 12th in the Western Coference, 3 Points out of a playoff spot and 8 points out of the division
- Mark Smith has been named the eastvalleytribune's player of the week
- Mike Dunham will continue to start all games untill he suffers an injury or is starting to feel the effects of fatigue.
- Due to the trade Mark Smith will move to Center, Trevor Letowski will move to Left Wing, and Wyatt Smith will enter the line-up and see time on the 4th line for the forseeable future.
