No team weathers the storm at this level quite like the Russians.

Pretty lackluster group of blueliners from the WHL this year (forwards aren't all that great either). Good sign for Myers.

Said he was a disappointment too. :dunno:

I thought he played well. He made lot of subtle little plays and was positionally sound in limited ice time. I guess people think a first round pick from Russia should be skating end to end through defenders. While that would be nice, that's not his game.

Main boards feeling Rubstov is borderline to make WJC.

I was super pleased with his 1st & 2nd periods. I thought he faded in the 3rd. Really, the whole team did (jet lag?). 5 more of these games to go, but the 1st one was easily a success for him.

As for the WJC team, I noted in the previous thread that Bragin (coach) almost always heavily favors the older players. So it's certainly possible he doesn't make it. Although, I would find it fairly surprising if they didn't take him.

Edit:
I just read the main board thread. It's like bizarro world. One poster even said Kaurnakov was the best player on his line (the one with Rubstov & Kostin). Where am I?

Why do other teams even talk about our prospects that much. I don't think I could name any other teams. I don't care about them. I like my team.

The prospects forum is a much better place if you stick to unaffiliated prospect threads.

To anyone following up on things in the AHL; how has Tyrell "lights out" Goulbourne done this season? Didn't dress for their last game and in fact the only thing I've seen from him this season is a beautiful left-handed KO punch in pre-season and some grappling in the only AHL fight so far. His fights have been fun to watch, as its either KO or get KO'd.

No position appears as set as goal does for Team Canada.

Four goaltenders were invited to the summer development camp, but a pair from the WHL who were there has emerged as the very clear front runners.

Tampa Bay’s 19-year-old prospect Connor Ingram of Kamloops and Philadelphia’s 18-year-old prospect Carter Hart of Everett have been the best Canadian goalies in junior hockey this season. And it really hasn't been close either. Barring unforeseen developments, they are expected to be Team Canada's tandem.

How have sanhiem, morin, and hagg looked so far? Honestly haven't been able to watch any ahl games yet

All 3 have looked good. Hagg has been quietly consistent and reliable. Morin looks more confident and composed than last year. Sanheim has flashed the offensive prowess we all know he has, but his deployment by the coach has been frustrating. Overall, they look better than the veterans on the team.

Valeri Bragin. The mad genius.

Far less talented players were being given gobs of ice time last night, despite playing mediocre. And German for the most part, until late, played well in his limited action. And it wasn't just an age thing: Popugayev, 17, must have gotten top 6 minutes last night. I don't know if that's a WHL thing, but he got a lot of action. Bleh.

I said the same thing about Popugayev last night. He was so blah and got killer minutes. I think Bragin just wanted a long look up close because it's his only chance to see him.

I don't really question Bragin. He coaches for January. Not right now. He almost always gets the best out if his guys when it matters.

He's just sending Rubtsov a message early that he doesn't give a **** where you were drafted. I've seen him do this a million times before. I'm a big Bragin fan.
