He's better off playing in the AHL for the next 8 seasons, then signing with this organization and be gifted a regular 4 line role because the Flyers love giving careers AHLers a chance in the NHL due to culture

I saw an article that opined whether the Flyers should sign Simmonds to a PTO. Why, on Gods green earth would they do that? To be an example to the kids. They dont play any kids. They are the one organization that truly believes a rebuild should not involve youth.

if we got picks back theres probably a very low chance they turn into another Gauthier, hes looking like he could be a solid NHLer soon. It would depend on the return obviously but you dont generally trade away ur #2 prospect before he even signs an ELC when youre just starting a rebuild.

Im not sure who the best comparables are tbh, hes a power forward with a sniper's release but its not incredibly accurate. Hes a volume shooter and will probably work on picking his shots more in the NHL. He can carry the puck but hes not a stand out handler and he doesnt have the best edges or seperation speed, but hes fast enough for the NHL, he can power through a lot of checks so turning him into a Wayne Simmonds at the net will be pretty easy as he gets stronger, he already has a knack for being open in the right places and his passing is under rated when hes on the wall too so hes not just a one trick pony, his overall vision is good but hes a shooter first.

I hope he's going to be better than Wayde Simmons.

JOB will be playing in Europe next year. He’s not cracking the Leafs’ lineup.

That is the hilarious irony: the Flyers will likely have so many "play the right way" veterans that there is no room for prospects to learn from them.

If Gauthier has a prime as good as Simmonds, that would be nice. Between 11-12 and 17-18 he had the 15th most goals in the whole league. That covered his age 23-29 seasons.

Saw that Dave Brown was replaced a director of Pro Scouting - thank f'in God. Of course, in true Flyers fashion he was not fired but just demoted.

Watching him again yesterday and this kid is very creative with good upside.
Not many players can move with the pace and elusiveness in open ice that he has.

Its kind of nasty when you add Michkov, Gauthier, Bump, Kaplan, and Rizzo to this list since theyd all be at camp if they werent NCAA/KHL guys, plus Kolosov and Zavragin this team could probably beat the main squad

Some thoughts:

Barkley's problem isn't height, no one worries about Andrae b/c he's built like a fireplug, but Barkley is small (154 lbs) and that raises two questions, how much strength can he add and how will it impact his speed and agility down the road. Small players can succeed, but they're outliers. If you are on the long tail you need to compensate with exceptional skills.

Bonk suffers from unrealistic expectations for top 4 D-men, only about 30 D-men played 1st line minutes and scored at a rate above 1.0 pp/60 at ES last season - that is, you can be a top D-man with mediocre offense if you're smart, tough, can skate and play above average defense. He should be seen in that context.

Lycksell to me is less than the sum of his parts, he flashed at times in the AHL but also disappeared for long stretches, and didn't impress in his NHL cameo. He may be similar to Frost in that he needs to both develop confidence and increase his intensity shift to shift. It took Frost a couple seasons to learn he couldn't excel on skill alone, everyone in the NHL has a modicum of skill.

Tuomaala may surprise this season, he has the speed and skill and a solid body, if he stops thinking of himself as entitled to be given a top scoring role, and accepts that his future depends on using that speed to create havoc (a mini-me Tippett) he could carve out a nice NHL career. Hopefully, the last two seasons are his wakeup call.

Strength isn't as important as you and Flahr think. Nor does it justify all the bad decisions the Flyers make with it in mind, and which you defend even when it goes against what you say you want.

Tuomaala will never surprise. At some point you're gonna have to give up and admit it was a mistake.

No one ever questioned Barkley's heart, his lack of a filter, yes, but not his heart.

Same thing in all sports, talent is important, but so are intangibles, man lead the NBA in rebounding at 6'4. The "round mound of rebound" was special b/c he had that competitive fire.

Intangibles are nothing without talent. The Flyers cannot understand that. They think intangibles are more important than being able to play.
