I seem to remember Pesce having difficulty with the accuracy of his point shot. Gotta fix that before the points will come.

I think the accuracy of his shot (or lack thereof) is the biggest/only thing holding back his offense- I remember him especially at the end of last year getting himself into some great positions and getting an open shot off and it just being nowhere close. If he can fix that mechanic I don't think his offensive instincts are as terrible as others seem to. Time will tell I guess

Wasn't Faulk pretty wild with his slapper earlier in his career? Or am I misremembering?

Nope, you are remember correctly. His shooting coach changed the flex on his stick because he had grown stronger and it was causing him to be off with his accuracy. Maybe Peesh is having the same issue. It would be great if the fix were something as simple as a stick change.

I think that is how most around here feel about it. Personally i think he may have a little more offensive ability in him, but we will see. People saying its a bad deal obviously have never seen him play or only seen him once or twice.

Or you know they have never heard his name before or whatever.:sarcasm:

I look at it differently. IMO, Pesce is worth $4M in today's dollars based on what he provides today. But this contract isn't for today, it starts the 18/19 season and goes for 6 years after that Assuming Salaries continue to climb, if Pesce doesn't improve 1 bit and provides what he is providing today, that $4M is going to be a very good contract down the road. If he improves at all, it's going to be a fantastic deal IMO.

The fears that Pesce's offense will never come are far more valid than those concerning Slavin. Pesce is about a offensively deficient as you can get in today's NHL.

Good contract though. Excited to have them for the next 7 years.

Thanks guys. I figured the main boards weren't the best place to check my thoughts.

Pesce uses a much longer stick with a lower lie. Faulk shoots from a much more comfortable position closer to his feet. To me that's always played a part in Pesce looking a little awkward in shooting. I'm sure such a long stick plays a part of his defense in his mind and is unlikely to switch that so it's just going to take time as he learns the timing of when and where to shoot. He often looks a little rushed because space got tight on him quicker than he thought it would. The one timers just need a lot of practice, he's not very good at them yet.

When he catches them right he looks like he can crush it, though I thought the same of Mcbain.

Well, on that front, McBain COULD crush it, but the questions about the guys work ethic may not have been unfounded. On the flip side I don't think I've ever heard a single complaint about Pesce's work ethic.

I feel like shot accuracy is a finer skill that can be worked on and significantly improved over the baseline ability a player brings to the league.

I'd be more worried if his shot was accurate but a muffin.

McBain is the reason I can say I have the physique of a professional athlete.

I probably misspoke when I said he had a "very good" slapshot. What I should've said was "very hard". That clip I posted on the last page, damn that was a bullet.

My understanding is that he's working on his shot extensively, working with a shooting coach, or making some other "shot" adjustments....seems that I read somewhere that he realized he needed to be more accurate and hence the work....but maybe I'm just hoping...
