Before he was a Wing, I hated Perron. I thought he was a spot picker, cheap shot, dirty, pest. My opinion hasn't changed but now he's our asshole and I don't think we should stop there. I think we need more assholes on the team or cultivate that side of things with our current players. We have to be harder to play against.

I think he is done, he cannot keep up anymore. Time to move on.
His skating is horrendous these days.

On the other hand, He does a few little things better than anyone else on the team. - primarily his ability to take a puck off the boards and get it to an open teammate and help set up possession once they have gained the o-zone.

Overall I'm on the fence. His skating is bad and he can be a liability as a result of it. He is also the 7th most productive forward on this team and we would miss the above mentioned skillset even if he is on decline.

Someone's gotta go. Why would you run this back?

Forwards with Term:
Larkin
Copp
Compher
Fabbri
Debrincat
Rasmussen

UFA:
Kane
Perron
Sprong
Fischer
Czarnik

RFA:
Raymond
Veleno

You know they are gonna want Kane back if they can. They can maybe keep two of the ufa's but three? No.

I mean, if he agreed to take a massive pay cut, and agreed to a much lesser role (like 4th line specialist, and maybe some PP2 ice time), then why not, but I doubt he would want this.

Perron is at the point where he can have a positive impact for parts of 1 game in 5. Be it some singular battle win, or a key pass/shot, but as a whole the game is too fast for him and he cheats with his stick far too much because he can't/won't move his feet. I'd rather give his icetime to Berggren and tell him to be an asshole in the NHL like he apparently is in the AHL.

Think Sprong has fallen out of favor, could see Perron back in a reduced/specialty role but he needs a pay cut and his roster spot needs internal improvement or someone brought in. That being said I think he is good for the culture and clearly the guys like him. Sticks up for teammates and can predict 8 game win streaks.

He might.

I can see him want to stick around for a role in the organization after retirement.

His skating is horrendous these days.

So slow, it's like he aged a decade in the past year.

I'd rather take the $4.75M and sign a faster player, maybe someone like Chandler Stephenson? 40 pts isn't that hard to replace, there are other middle 6 wingers available in free agency this season. Team speed and defense needs to improve.

Couldn't agree more. I've always loved Perron's game. We need heart and soul guys on the team!

Must be kidding. He is slow and basically useless 5 on 5. He also takes a lot of bonehead penalties and is pretty lax in his own end.

If they can even this team's high's and lows out a little next season I can see huge value in Perron being "that one guy in the room who's also a thorn in the other team's side."

I'll never forget that, even though it was the wrong guy, when he saw Larks on the ice like an unstrung puppet he charged someone he thought was involved and tried to break his face. I'll eat a few Perronalties for that kind of elan.

Father Time is undefeated and Perron is about to jump in the ring with him.

Big goal the other night. But lets not make any rash proclamations.

We talkin’ about practice, man. I mean, how silly is that? We talkin’ about practice. We ain’t takin’ about the game. What are we talkin’ about? Practice.
And we talkin' about Perron not AI...

4th line player/coach at sub $2M? Whatever, but I'd rather that go to a kid. He's not mobile enough for the top 9.

It is too bad his speed has disappeared because I agree, he does a lot of little things right that the Wings sorely need.

He's patient and smart in puck battles along the boards and corners. He doesn't have a problem posting up in the tough areas like in front of the net. And he's a pain in the ass to play against. All that will be sorely missed.

I won't be too upset if he's gone but it better be an upgrade or the Wings will be even easier to play against.

Good: One of the few solid board players on the team, in both o-zone and d-zone. Will take a hit and still make a useful play, a rarity on the Wings. Good on PP2. The emotion and compete level he plays with. Probably willing to play another year at much-reduced rate.

Bad: Skating constantly puts him at disadvantage and penalties and poor coverage primarily because of skating deficiency. He is always trying to do the right thing, but can't do it as well as he used to. He's only going to be slower next year. Not suited to minutes required for effective middle six usage.

Perron at $2.5M for one year would be acceptable, depending on off-season roster plans that should include a top six LW and more speed in the bottom six. Addition of a top six LW (along with Kane returning) would reduce or eliminate his PP utility and 5v5 much rather have someone who can skate and be physical taking his spot. Kasper is ready to do that much.
