Emergency recalls count against the cap, too. Bonino had to go on LTIR for cap reasons regardless of whether Friedman was an emergency recall or regular recall.
I personally liked Trotz's explanation of Wilson intentionally driving his shoulder through ZAR's jaw; "Wilson's just as entitled to that lane as ZAR is".
I think it's more that a couple guys might be getting some pregame treatment/assessments and they brought Friedman up just in case. If the players are good to go, Friedman can be sent right back down before the game or converted to a standard recall and be kept up.
