Or a trade for Joseph...
(I'm not saying I'd want that, but unlike Shea, Joseph wasn't brought in by Dubas, both Shea and Ludvig are LD, and Joseph has the highest cap hit of those three; here's to hoping it is Ruhwedel, though).
Nah, I think Ludvig is only going to be in the NHL long enough for the Pens to get an assessment of him. He'll head to WBS soon enough. He's only played 80 total pro games in the last three seasons. He needs reps.

Yeah everybody is saying Ruh would be the one to go, but actually Ludvig brings the toughness that RUHWEDEL needs. We can trade POJ for a 4th round 2026 pick.

I don't think the risk of losing Ludvig to waivers back to Florida is worth getting him extra game reps in the AHL. If he's going to the AHL, it's most likely going to be Florida's AHL team after they reclaim him.

I'm hoping the setup will be:

-POJ jumps into the top-4 LD if a top-4 LD gets hurt.
-Ludvig takes POJ's spot as the 3rd pair LD if any LD gets hurt.
-Smith gets called up from WBS and jumps into the top-4 RD if a top-4 RD gets hurt
-Shea takes Ruhwedel's spot as the 3rd pair RD if Ruhwedel gets hurt (or the other way around if Shea is playing over Ruhwedel)

I think there's close to 100% that Florida will take him back if we try to get him down to WBS through waivers. Cause they can then use him on their AHL teams now he was theirs first.

POJ is worlds better than any of our other bottom pairing options. Pass on trading him and his sweetheart cap hit for this year.

I don't actually think that will happen. I just came up with the worst somewhat plausible option I could, and I had to share the terror!

No NHL coach is going to throw a d-man with zero NHL experience out onto the PK.

It took them like 4 years to finally get Petts on the PK.
Am I way oversimplifying this or Ludvig brought in for ahl depth and maybe a chance to move up if he proves himself at wbs and someone gets hurt in the big club. As you say -0 NHL experience.

Maybe - or maybe they let him practice with the team for awhile and get a feel for his game. I can’t see Sully sticking a guy with no experience in an NHL game if he had any other possible options. Whatever. They really do need help on the bottom pair. In watching the Detroit game last week with mostly fringe/ahl guys, I thought Ruh was clearly the best of the bunch - sorry to say.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Ludvig tried on his offside too or POJ for that matter. I think they want a crease clearing guy. If he can play physical infront of the net he is going to get in sooner than later.

The issue is that one injury in warmups will make them have to play with 7 D in the season opener. The issue is not having a spare forward in case of an injury, not who the 7th defenseman is.

Again, it's not a big deal because they can just waive Shea tomorrow and have a 13th forward for the remaining 81 games. But it seems like an unforced error for the first game of the season that could have easily been solved by just waiving Shea like they did with Zohorna, I don't really understand why they didn't do that.
Getting hurt in warmups is pretty unlikely. If someone gets hurt on your first shift, you're down to 11F anyway and can't do anything about it. All this tells me is that Guentzel is in the lineup in sharpie, not pencil. It's a 1 game inconvenience to improve the roster for the other 81. Seems like an acceptable risk.

Hope these guys are worth the trouble.

I've been saying for a while that all they need at 3RD is a crease clearing, shot blocking specialist to play PK only, less than 10 min a night.

I like the pick up. Some Panther fans are saying he should of made the team. Hopefully this makes Ruh a healthy scratch, but I wouldnt bet Sully on it.

So much for that franchise going in another direction and changing things up. Plus all that talk that he wouldn't sign there again.

Chevy probably asked for the world OR Helly did and teams didn't want to meet either demand. Left both the team and player where nowhere to go but back with each other.

Winnipeg being a moronic franchise is nothing new.

Hard to get mad at the deals for both Helle and Schief, but what the f*** is the direction there?

"make the playoffs for gate revenue". 90s all over again.

"Prior to turning professional, the Liberec, Czechia native played three seasons of junior hockey with the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL from 2017-20. He accumulated 24 goals, 63 assists and 87 points in 169 games and served as captain of Portland in 2019-20."

Smallest market in the league has to make some compromises that most other franchises don't in order to keep the lights on, unfortunately.

Yeah, I get it. Although, "to keep the lights on" is a little silly given who financially backs that franchise.

That being said. Makes sense given what the message from ownership is.

No accent at all.. apparently they grew up in Canada.

It’s probably as simple as Dubas and Spezza liking him as a player and picking him up to see if he fits. No risk.

Man.....4 pull ups. Not even chin ups. That's weak sauce for the camera. Why even get the pull up shot Johnny.

To the waiver wire you go
