Last night the Utica radio pxp broadcaster said Kevin Dineen had the option to decline a penalty shot and take a two minute power play instead.

Is that a new rule this season or has it been that way for a while?

edit: I don't see anything in the AHL rule book that says there is an option to decline the penalty shot in favor of a two minute power play.
