Evidently the "right situation" is playing for a team other than the Buffalo Sabres.
So you can't confirm that he actually retired?

And evidently the right situation for him is the one he chooses. Something he thought he'd be able to do with an NTC negotiated into his contract.

Berglund didn't retire. The Sabres terminated his contract. If he had actually retired they wouldn't have needed to terminate his contract.

Berglund might be a decent player still, but given how ineffectual he was in terms of what we needed him to be (a stopgap 2c) and especially his remaining term, the salary cap relief we got from terminating his contract is fine by me. Honestly, I wish him the best.

Lehner was an alcoholic mano-depressive who finally got real help when he left Buffalo.

Perhaps this franchise could step up and do more to help those in need, instead of running them out of town and then criticizing them.
We didn't run Berglund out of town, that's ridiculous. Lehner either.

What an ignorant statement. Do some research and you will see that it was Botts who was a catalyst for Lehner and Lehner speaks very highly of him for his support and getting him help.

Ridiculous. Neither player was run out of town. Lehner was a free agent they walked away from after helping him begin to deal with his problems the previous season. Berglund chose not to continue playing for Buffalo, not due to any mistreatment we are aware of.

Is he filling the roster hole created by the departure of Davidsson?

In real life matters though, I wish him well and hope he is handling his self-care in a manner that benefits him. Best of luck.
