He's a beast, Toronto did well to sign him. Even when San Jose would choke in the playoffs, he was one player that always stood out as doing his part to help them win.

The least amount of games he's played in a season was his rookie year back 97/98. 74 games that year. Ridiculous consistency in that regard.

But when SJ got to the Cup final, he only got 13 points in 24 games? Is that the takeaway here? He'll be great when the team is playing mediocre, but mediocre when the team is playing great?

Would have been nice if they made it when he was younger but at this point, I think you take 13 in 24 from Marleau.

So then why did Thornton score 21 in 24 games?

First your choking point gets debunked now so does your age statement.

I don't care about the Sharks Cup run. He put up a ton of goals in the other years, insane totals.

He had a pretty similar point per game in the playoffs that year to the regular season. Thornton having better numbers when Thornton is clearly a better player seems pretty irrelevant.

Marleau has been one of my favourite players for a long time now. I remember that I used to always get the Leafs to trade for him in NHL2K7 GM mode. Hopefully he puts up a big night tonight. No missed games in 8 seasons is amazing.

Feels like he's been around forever. Still remember when he broke in, he was 17 during training camp back in 1997.

Marleau has been quietly good on the Leafs. Hope he has another injury free season. He makes a pretty big impact off the ice if you ask the younger players on the team and he's producing on the ice as well.

Do teams have a ceremony or something for 1500 games or is that just for 1000 games? I can't recall.

He won't quite make the top-10 this season, but if he plays his usual 80 games then he will finish 11th. That includes passing guys like Yzerman, Lidstrom, Bucyk who were famed for their longevity.

Does this make him one of the most durable players statistically in NHL history?

Wow. You'd think it'd have to. I didn't realize Marleau had such an ironman streak going.

Lidstrom was insanely healthy for most of his career and skipped games mostly at the end of the season to rest him for the playoffs. It wasn't until late in his career that Lidstrom got injured for any significant time. But I think Marleau has him beat.

According to this source, Lidstrom missed 46 games over 20 seasons, including playoff games.

Of course you don't care. It puts a big fat hole in your 'Marleau shows up, but the other Sharks didn't' narrative.

Marleau was a solid goal scorer in the playoffs for the Sharks, but he would have series where he put up 7 goals to help the team win then follow it up with a 1-2 goal series. He was a streaky scorer, but was far from the only player to show up when the team lost.

I don't care about the argument either. I was wrong, you were right.

Interesting. I was gonna say I was a bit surprised at how physical he plays and how hard it is to not miss games when you're willing to go into the corners. A guy like Kessel is never hurt but he would never give up the body to make a play.

Good on patty. He is remarkably durable, and while he isn't a super physical player he is a big body and isn't afraid to get in there and work around the net. And he's taken stuff like this:

Kill 'em with kindness. Classy.

Anywhoo.. Marleau has the #2 active ironman streak behind only Cogliano. It's pretty awesome.

Cogliano is an interesting case too. He hasn't missed a single game in his NHL career. Not one. 792 regular season games so far.

Easily one of my favorite players, even if he isn't the most talented guy. He's all heart.
