There was a professor (Jerrold Petrofsky) at Wright State University near Dayton that was doing something like this about 40 years ago. It was on 60 Minutes a few times.
My friend from high school was going to WSU at the time. He was a skeptic.
I found this AP story from 1986. The woman walked SEVEN miles.
It is a step forward. Dr Petrofsky did it with computers and electromechanical equipment.
