Not all that surprising.

Do we hold his rights indefinitely, should he decide to come back, or would those expire at some point?

Wouldn't be shocked. He couldn't hold down a roster spot at the end of the year and could easily get jumped next season in favour of the likes of Rosen, Lily, and Sandin. He probably would want to go back to where he can play regularly and make a better earning.

Not really surprising, no, but he held his own in the bottom pairing (if I recall the reported metrics) on a middle of the pack defence, so I imagine he could have had an NHL job.
Didn’t ever hear much about his adjustment (either way)...maybe he just misses home?
Rights?
Don’t know, but someone will answer.

His rights got traded yesterday in the KHL, so that all but confirms he is heading home.

CSKA Moskva -----> Ak Bars Kazan

Why would a team trade for him otherwise if he was staying in NHL?

Not surprising. We need to be better there and he doesn't help that.
