Thanks for starting the thread sfan. I can't make it to training camp this year (pesky boss who insist I work!) . So would love to hear comments reports etc... Particularly interested in the rookies both 98, 99's...Keating, Hoefenmeyer,Hudson,W.Brown and D.Pearce. Also curious about the goalies especially how Lafreniere plays as he could push for a job. Thanks in advance.

How long do we have Konecny?

For anyone who hasn't noticed yet, Konecny has generated a lot of excitement in Flyerland.

The chattering class consensus (Broad Street Buzz, Broad Street Hockey HFB poll, hockey press) seems to be he is their top forward prospect based on ceiling and readiness, even though the older Laughton has essentially proved he is ready for the roster now.

Added to this mix, the Flyers have numerous under performing forwards, several of whom are expensive, and also have a salary cap squeeze.

Do you think Konecny is ready? If he has a good camp (he shined at the prospect camp in July), do you expect him to dress for some games this fall? If the Flyers can make some trades or have some injuries, might this accelerate the call-up calculus?

Jeff Brown said (or seemed to) on TSN1200 yesterday he would be surprised but not shocked of the Flyers called Konecny up. If you are Brown, how do these scenarios play out in the 67's trade decisions, especially which OAs to keep?

I think Konecny can taste how close he is. A strong year this year with the 67s will certainly help seal the deal. If he can stay healthy, I expect he will certainly be among the top players in the OHL this year.

I expect to make it to tonight's scrimmage and Friday's exhibition game. The daytime/shifting schedule makes the other two scrimmages unlikely for me. Hopefully this year they don't run out of lineup sheets :)

Is this because he's not playing tonight or he is not reporting?

Camp media coverage

Sun's Chris Hofley was at the game and ran this story (written before the scrimmage):
http://m.ottawasun.com/2015/09/01/ottawa-67s-raise-the-bar-as-camp-starts
Some quotes:
“It is what it is, we have a lot of forwards back and we don’t have many defenceman back,†said Brown, who is entering his second year behind the 67’s bench. “We should be okay in goal, we should be okay up front.
“We need some younger guys to step up and assume a big role early in their OHL careers on the back end.â€
“There’s a learning curve in this league but (Todd) was our No. 1centre at the end of the year,†said Eastwood. “We’re expecting him to take a huge step forward this year.â€
“(Keating's) a real good prospect that’s going to come in a play for us and he’s going to get better as the year goes on,†said Eastwood. “As a 16-year-old, you can’t expect a guy to come in a be a Travis Konecny. It’s wide open in front of him though, what he does with it is up to him. He’s a smart hockey player and we love smart hockey players.â€
“Once (Falkovsky) gets his feet under him and gets comfortable in the league, he’s a guy that’s going to help us,†Eastwood said...

Elsewhere in the article Hofley suggests:
Forwards
- First line will be Addison, Todd, Konecny
- Studnicka or Salituro will be second-line centre, Tyanulin RW and Barron LW
- Keating, Graham, Fanjoy, McDonald, Pearce and Craievich will be the bottom six
Defence
- Middleton and de Haan will be the top pair
- Guy, Orban, Lukezic and Falkovsky the next two D lines
Goal
- No changes with Herbst and Lazarev

The Citizen's Don Campbell adds (also written before the scrimmage)...
http://ottawacitizen.com/sports/hockey/67s-rule-no-1-were-going-for-it-jeff-brown-says
Quotes:
“Brownie just wanted to know how my summer was going . . . then he said, ‘You better be ready . . . cause we’re going for it’,†said Middleton, the 67’s leader along the blueline. “Then he added that if we’re not top two in the East, then we’re not doing what we’re supposed to do.â€
“We’re here to win, here to win the last game of the year . . . that’s the goal,†said Brown. “Is it unrealistic? No I don’t think so. “We have a good locker room here. We have a good nucleus to start with. “Now to win, you need a lot of things to go your way: a bounce here, a save or a call. A lot of things have to go your way. You need a lot of things to come together. But if they do, why not us?â€
“I’m going to treat both my situations the same,†said Konecny, who flies out for Flyers camp Sept. 13. “In Ottawa, I’m expected to be a leader and I’m going to set an example for the new guys and let everybody know I’m here to play. At the same time, I’m going to Philadelphia to do everything I can to try and make the team. My goal is to make the Flyers. I want to be the best and get to that (NHL) level. If that’s not now, I am looking forward to coming back to Ottawa and helping the 67’s have a big yea.â€
Campbell's Lineup speculation:
- "Herbst, who is off to the San Jose Sharks rookie camp, is the incumbent No. 1 with either Leo Lazarev or Olivier Lafreniere likely a tradeable commodity"

White won 6-0 in a game that didn't have much physical intensity. This will likely dial up over the next two games. Lafreniere played two periods and showed well with some dandy first and rebound saves. He and Herbst shared the shut out. I didn't get a good enough read on the new defense prospects to form an opinion. Studnicka wasn't dressed for this game.

On TSN1200 this morning Mike Eastwood mentioned that Dante Salituro will be attending the Carolina main camp.

Interesting and good for Dante. He did in fact make a strong impression in Carolina in July:
http://www.canescountry.com/2015/7/7/8904445/2015-development-camp-day-one-notes
"The Canes have some interesting invitees. Check out number 81, Dante Salituro, who showed off some sick moves as he scored a few times. How did this guy not get drafted with 37 goals and 41 assists last year for the Ottawa 67's?"
Looks like its actually Columbus, either way its great news.

Columbus and Salituro

http://www.jacketscannon.com/2015/9/3/9258995/jackets-traverse-city-roster-info-about-the-invites
"Salituro was eligible for this year's draft, but was passed over, mostly likely due to his 5'8", 185lb frame. The center led the Ottawa 67's in scoring this past season, with 37-41-78 in 68 games. He's a player worth tracking at this tournament, and is a candidate to earn an entry-level contract from the Jackets with a successful showing in Traverse City, and with luck, main camp...Salituro and Isackson help fill a gap up the middle for this year's squad, highlighting the need for the Jackets to bulk up the center position in the 2016 Draft."

This leaves us with likely 1 too many D and 2 extra forwards so further moves will happen. Also with the releases of Lukezic and Mercer our D gets even younger. A bit surprised with Mercer as I thought he played ok in limited minutes last year but did not see training camp so I' m guessing got outplayed by Barbosa an d the two rookies. As for Mcdonald he didn't seem to gain Brown's confidence last year so not a surprise. Saw glimpses with him though, wonder if another O team will give him a chance?

As didn't know much about the rookies especially Warnholtz who seemed to come out of nowhere as never drafted by the poles I looked up their stats.

Barbosa 26 5 8 13 22
Gardiner 39 3 9 12 66
Warnholtz 28 16 22 38 14 in midget AAA last year
29 26 31 57 28 in midget AA his draft year

Intriguing numbers for Warnholtz and wonder why he wasn't drafted even if he played double A as seems to also have decent size. Hope he plays tonight so I can have a look at him.

The video coach for the 67's is Jeff Jordan and last year he also coached the Ottawa Senators AAA the same team Warnholtz played on. He probably provided some good insight on him. If he doesn't make the team he will play for the Nepean Raiders where he signed in the summer.

67's lose 5-2 Tyanulin and Studnicka score. Lafreniere played the whole game in net, only giving up 3 goals as Gatineau scored 2 empty net goals. Konechny missed a penalty shot. Only 4 penalties in whole game. Stepan Falkovsky played in the game.

A few thoughts

Here's are a few thoughts about the direction this team may end up going to start the season.

As for the OA, I think they would be Guy, Todd and Studnicka....

Possibly trading Herbst, and going with Lazarev as the starter and Lafreniere as back up for this teams future.

1st line. Konecny, Todd, Addison
2 nd. Studnicka, Salitero, Tyanulin
3 Rd. Fanjoy, Barron, Mallette
4 th. Graham ,Keating, Craievich
Pearce

D
Middleton, Falkovsky
Guy, trade from Herbst
Orban, hoefenmayer
Wilson, brown
Barbarossa
