Not looking at cap hit, just what players are stated to make next season

*Estmate
?? - Spezza 4.0 - Stone .603
Macarthur 3.25 - Turris 3.5 - Ryan 5.56
Hoffman 0.8* - Zibanejad 0.894 - Condra 1.3
Greening 2.0 - Smith 1.7 - Neil 2.1

Methot 3.75 - Karlsson 6.5
Cowen 2.7 - Gryba 1.2*
Phillips 2.5 - Wiercioch 2.2
Boro 0.6

Anderson 3.5
Lehner 1.5*

Total: 50.157

- The Sens in actual payroll not cap spent just under 51 million this season and the team was over budget this past seaon.

- New TV deal and rising cap should give the Sens about 4.0 more to play with.

That roster spot BM wants for a hard forward, I think that's all the money he has this summer after Lehner, Gryba and Hoffman are re- signed

Murray worked his magic in the last 2 of 3 seasons with minimal budget. He'll be able to think of something to get us back to the playoffs after a 1 year haitus.

I'm looking at the team and unless Melnyk is ready to spend close to 65 million a year from now then the team needs to be selling its UFAs.

A year from now
Spezza 4 - 7
Ryan 5.5 - 7.5
MacArthur 3.25 - 5.0
Methot 3.75 - 5.0 (Andrew McDonald just got paid)
Anderson 3.5 - 5.0

Then internal raises like
Cowen 2.7 - 3.7
Wiercich 2.2 -2.7
Greening 2.0-2.75
Zibanejad 0.8-RFA (2-3?)

The team can get buy this year but if the current group is to stay together... Looking at the payroll needing to be around 65 next year

65 is going to be almost cap. Playoffs are achievable for far less, and our team is effectively already at 55m-60m with several players worth much more than real money next season and once you add at trade deadline, you can go up to the magic 65m even.

Caps going up... Should be 68-71 next season and could very well be 73-75 the following year

Team can get by this year around 55... It's 15/16 I'm concerned about with the raises this team needs to UFAs and the internal raises on the back loaded contracts the Sens have been handing out.

Until we know what the budget will be, what's really the point in speculating? You're only guessing that we'll have $4M to spend.

Bruce Garrioch talked about the upcoming season's budget in an article today but I am not sure where he pulled the number from.

"The Senators will not be a cap team next year and the club will continue with an internal budget with $56-to-$57 million range. The club will continue to put money into drafting an developing to have success."

My guess was 2 million off according to Garrioch

I hope budget does not mean cap hit... For instance Spezza money makes 4 but cap hit is 7

I hope they plan to spend 56-57 actual million and not just cap

Behind you, look out
Spezza (4)
Ryan(5.562)
Turris(3.5)
MacArthur(3.25)
Neil(2.1)
Greening(2)
Smith(1.7)
Condra(1.3)
Stone (.575)
Pageau (660)
Hoffman (800) (guess)

Karlsson (6.5)
Cowen (2.7)
Phillips (2.5)
Methot (3.75)
Wiercioch (2.2)
Gryba (1.2)
Ceci (925)
Boro (600)

Anderson (3.5)
Lehner (1.2) (guess)

Total $50,522,500

If the cap is 71M the floor is 52M giving us $1,477,500 to use to fill the last spot.
If the cap is 68.8M, the floor is 50.3M meaning we are over the cap floor regardless and will call up Prince, Da Costa, etc to fill the final spot.

TV rights income going up by $27 million per year, yielding an increase in internalized budget of $6-7 million per year. Cool.

Pretty sure there was something said before where Leeder mentioned that TV deal would increase our budget for next season and then later on Melnyk contradicted that statement by saying it wouldn't.

It was something along those lines.

I don't think Melynk ever said they would not increase the budget.

I don't think Melynk ever said they would not increase the budget.

He didn't say he wouldn't increase the budget, just that the new TV deal wouldn't be a significant increase such as the 5-7M people projected it would.

It's hard to keep track these days with what has been said though. Murray and Leeder will say something and then Melnyk will say the opposite.

lol, if that's the case we're ****ed. not that i expected it to be any different.
What Fuhr says is exactly the case. Its not next season, its the year after where we will find out if the org has been honest with the fans or if we are going to be the Oakland A's supplying the other teams in the league with our good players in their prime.

In fact we will possibly find out in the next 6months since they will have to deal them or face losing some of them for nothing.

its all well and good to develop your own talent, quite another to imply that are going to keep those guys as they get better.
Is Melynk's plan to develop and never pay? or develop and keep?
